Revenge Is the Best Wedding Gift Chapter 20

Just yesterday, we had signed the divorce papers and completed the divorce proceedings.

I told him that after today’s grand wedding ceremony, we’d go register at city hall again—double happiness.

He was stupid enough to believe it.

Watching his supposed joy at getting me back, I felt no sense of accomplishment, only endless melancholy.

When I lay on the emergency room operating table, desperate and ready to give up on life, I heard the psychologist’s encouragement in my ear.

During my psychological treatment, she had long noticed my pathological dependence on Rafe and had gently warned me, but I was stubborn then.

It wasn’t until I lay on that cold operating table and heard those words again that my mindset had completely changed.

In that moment, what sparked my strong will to live wasn’t lingering attachment to this world, but understanding that only by living could I fight back against those who trampled on my sincerity.

With this burn-it-all-down mentality, I stubbornly pulled through.

When I opened my eyes and saw Rafe’s face full of fear and tension, I mentally planned how to make him pay.

Wasn’t he jealous that I once belonged to someone else?

Then I’d make him think he’d found redemption, then cruelly tell him I’d always love someone else, finally ensuring he couldn’t even be a substitute, completely plunging him into despair.

My revenge plan went perfectly.

When I repeatedly forced Rafe to do things he’d never done with me under the guise of recovering memories, watching his barely concealed pain despite his efforts to hide it did give me brief satisfaction.

But that satisfaction lasted only a second before my heart felt empty.

It was like someone had ripped open my chest, torn out my heart, and stuffed it with cheap straw.
