Revenge Is the Best Wedding Gift Chapter 01

On the way back from the city hall after registering our marriage, Rafe suddenly spoke up: “I cheated on you.”

He pointed at the passenger seat where I was sitting, smiling with cruel satisfaction:

“Yesterday she was sitting right there kissing me, dressed so damn hot, I couldn’t resist—so I slept with her.”

This was the second time I’d been betrayed.

I sat there frozen, too devastated to make a sound.

Rafe seemed to savor the memory: “Now I finally understand Nicholas. Victoria really is more of a woman than you’ll ever be.”

Nicholas was my ex-husband, and Victoria was once my best friend.

Five years ago, I caught them cheating in bed with my own eyes.

When I was drowning in despair, Rafe had saved me.

But now, he had betrayed me too, for the same person.

…

My throat felt like someone was strangling it.

After what felt like forever, I finally found my voice and asked tremblingly: “Why?”

If he’d already cheated, why still go with me to city hall to take marriage vows?

Why choose the moment that should have been the happiest of my life to cruelly tear open the truth?

Rafe looked stunned for a moment.

Suddenly, he burst into laughter: “You won.”

I stared at him in confusion.

The next second, that sickeningly familiar voice came through the car’s Bluetooth speakers: “Then tonight you have to use my favorite strawberry flavor~”

I stared in shock, my eyes wide.

I felt like all the blood in my body had turned to ice in an instant.

“Victoria and I made a bet about how you’d react when you found out I cheated. I bet you’d slap me hard; she bet you’d ask me why.”

“If I won, she’d wear my favorite Victoria’s Secret set; if she won…”

Rafe raised an eyebrow: “Well, you heard.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Victoria’s voice came through the speakers again: “Lavinia, it’s been five years, but you’re still exactly the loser I thought you’d be. Though I have to say, your taste in men remains excellent—I quite like this one too.”

Her mocking laughter made my limbs go numb.

In a daze, I felt like I was back to that afternoon five years ago.

I’d ended my business trip to Boston early, rushing back to Seattle with joy, wanting to surprise my ex-husband Nicholas on his birthday.

I pushed open the front door, only to walk in on Nicholas and Victoria entangled by the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room.

Seeing me, Nicholas was scared and flustered.

Victoria calmly picked up a lighter and lit a Marlboro cigarette: “Lavinia, sorry about this. Single life’s been too lonely—just borrowing your husband for a bit.”

Back then, I was just like now.

Crying and desperately asking Victoria, asking Nicholas: “Why?”

But when their lips moved trying to answer me, my ears felt stuffed with cotton—I couldn’t hear anything.

Until Victoria and Nicholas turned pale and shouted at me in panic.

A cramp-like pain shot through my lower abdomen, so intense I couldn’t straighten up.

Only then did I wake up as if from a dream and look down—blood was already flowing between my legs.

That day, I lost the three most important people in my life simultaneously.

A close friend of ten years, a husband of one year, and the three-month-old baby in my womb.
