Rejected on the Frost Moon Night, Claimed by the Alpha King Chapter 04

Rejected on the Frost Moon Night, Claimed by the Alpha King Chapter 04

The morning of the mating ceremony, I slid into my wedding gown before dawn.

Grandma fussed with my veil, smiling as she worked. “Alaric truly cherishes you.”

“The settlement alone was one point six eight million dollars. Three estates—all under your name.”

Jett poked his head through the doorway. “Selene! Alaric’s convoy is here. It’s massive.”

I pressed my lips together, pulse racing.

My phone buzzed. Blaze.

“Selene… sorry, something came up. I’ll be late to the ceremony. Wait for me, okay? I’ll come get you right after.”

“No need,” I said, hung up, and blocked him.

The screen went dark just as Grandma settled the white veil over my face. She led me out.

Cheers and blessings washed over me.

I rested my hands on my lap, the Sea God’s Pearl warm against my palm.

Today, I became Alaric’s mate.

At the crossroads, the motorcade slowed.

I rolled down the window.

A black sedan sat stalled in the middle of the road, engine running, doors open.

Blaze stood there in a tailored suit, clutching a bouquet of red roses.

He looked like he’d sprinted the whole way—sweat on his brow, chest heaving.

He grabbed the lead driver by the shoulder. “Whose mating ceremony is this? Since when does Alaric have a mate?”

The driver chuckled. “You don’t know? It’s your ex—”

A gust of wind cut him off.

Blaze’s eyes locked on our car.

The blood drained from his face.

He dropped the flowers and stumbled forward, reaching for the door to shove past Alaric.

“Get out of my way! I need to see who’s in there!”

Alaric caught his wrist and flung him back. “My mate isn’t for your eyes.”

Blaze staggered, pale as death.

He’d seen the gown. The veil. That familiar profile.

It couldn’t be.

Selene loved him. She’d given up Lunaris for him. She wouldn’t just… marry someone else.

His phone rang.

Lilith’s custom ringtone.

He froze.

“Blaze…” Her voice trembled through the line. “I’m scared without you. My stomach hurts again. Can you come over?”

His grip tightened on the phone.

He glanced once more at the luxury car.

The windows were shut now. Nothing to see.

Selene was probably still at home, waiting for him to apologize.

She’d forgive him. She always did.

Whoever was in that car, it wasn’t her.

“I’m on my way,” he said.

Blaze turned, got back in his car, and sped off.

Inside, I listened to the engine fade. A bitter smile curled my lips.

Typical Blaze.

One word from Lilith, and he’d leave me all over again.

Good thing I didn’t need him anymore.

The convoy reached the altar without further delay.

Alaric lifted my veil, studying me with awe.

“Selene… you’re breathtaking.”

He fastened the pearl necklace around my throat.

“I risked my life for this. It’ll protect you forever.”

“From today on, I won’t let anyone hurt you again.”

I touched the warm pearl, blinking back tears.

“Okay.”

After the ceremony, Alaric took me to Lunaris.

We drove through the most exclusive neighborhood, stopping before a sprawling estate.

The butler led a line of staff in a perfect bow.

“Welcome home, Luna.”

Alaric laced his fingers through mine as we stepped inside.

“This is ours now, Selene.”

I looked around at the crystal chandeliers, the marble floors, the view stretching for miles.

After four years of being told I was ‘so capable’ while Blaze handed my future to Lilith, now everything was already mine.

Love and indifference weren’t even on the same scale.

Meanwhile, Blaze knocked on my family’s front door, laden with gift bags.

“Mom, Jett—I’m here to pick up Selene.”

“Sorry I missed the date. But I’ve arranged transport to our new place today.”

He smiled, completely unaware that his bride had already left him behind.
