Rejected on the Frost Moon Night, Claimed by the Alpha King Chapter 03

Rejected on the Frost Moon Night, Claimed by the Alpha King Chapter 03

I kept scrolling to October 15th.

Lilith blew out candles on a cake, with her cheeks pink. Thanks for showing up every year, rain or shine.

That same day, I’d been picking out wedding favors.

A drunk driver jumped the curb. My leg got pinned under the wheel, shin snapped.

I’d called Blaze, shaking, sweat soaking my hair.

His answer? “Busy. Call 911.”

It turned out that his emergency was Lilith’s birthday party.

All those moments—they weren’t accidents. They were choices.

Choices I’d been too blind to see.

I’d been a fool, spinning dreams about our mating ceremony while he handed his heart to someone else.

I deleted Lilith’s contact. Then Blaze’s.

From then on, they didn’t exist.

Three days before the ceremony, I cleaned house.

Every cheap stuffed animal, every chipped mug, every pair of slippers he’d left behind—went into the boxes.

I hauled them to the curb, lifted the trash bin lid, and dumped it all in.

Blaze jogged up the driveway. “Selene—what are you throwing out?”

I wiped my hands. “Garbage.”

He didn’t push, just gave me that practiced look of regret. “I meant to come back yesterday. Something came up.”

He pulled out a tiny velvet box. “You always wanted a diamond. Here.”

He flipped it open. A sad little chip glittered in the sun.

My stomach turned.

That scarf pattern—I’d seen it wrapped around Lilith’s designer bag in her photos.

He’d bought her the bag. This was the freebie he’d tossed my way.

And he expected me to thank him.

“Keep it,” I said flatly.

His face hardened. “How long are you going to keep this up?”

“I’ve apologized. What more do you want?”

His phone rang. The second he saw the screen, his whole tone changed.

“I’m coming. Don’t move.”

He yanked his car door open. “Emergency. Gotta go.”

“Stop sulking. I’ll marry you in four days.”

“I’ll smooth things over with the Elder.”

He sped off.

Pathetic.

Four days from now, there would be a mating ceremony.

Just not with him.

The day before, I headed to the hospital to resign.

Halfway down the hall, I heard Lilith’s laugh from the nurse’s station.

She was lounging in the head nurse’s chair, flashing her diamond.

Blaze crouched at her feet, massaging her calf.

Interns whispered nearby.

“He gave her the promotion spot.”

“She gets the easy desk. Meanwhile, Selene pulls doubles and gets nothing.”

So that’s how it was.

Everyone here thought Lilith was his future mate.

I was just the punchline.

I thought about the offer I’d gotten from Lunaris General—the top hospital in the region.

Blaze had begged me to stay. “We’ll build a life here together.”

I’d given up everything for him.

And he’d handed my career to his girlfriend.

I didn’t even bother walking in. I just turned toward the director’s office.

The old man frowned at my resignation letter. “Selene, you’re our best nurse. Why quit now?”

“I’m moving to Lunaris,” I said.

He signed without another word.

“Good. You deserve better than this place.”

I nodded.

From here on, the ocean was mine—and so was every horizon beyond it.
