Just as I was about to pass out from the smoke, the door to the room burst open and a beam of light flooded

I never saw who it was, and everything went black.

I slept for three days and three nights. When I opened my eyes again, I saw a familiar face.

Damon Blackthorn. Royalty. My one-time arranged marriage match.

“Rest,” he said gently, tucking the blanket around me. “Don’t think about anything else.”

“Your mother… I took care of everything.”

That broke me. The memories came flooding back.

Damon pulled me into his arms and held me while I sobbed.

I had walked away from our arrangement back then, choosing to wait for Victor instead.

All those years of waiting, and this was where it led.

Over the next few days, Damon helped me heal and took me to the cemetery to visit my mother.

Then my phone started blowing up with his calls.

I ignored every one and blocked him.

Damon didn’t respond to Victor’s tantrum. Instead, he posted a picture of our engagement ring.

I looked at myself in the mirror in my wedding gown. “This mating ceremony is to honor my mother’s

wish.”

“As for our relationship… we’ll take it slow.”

Damon nodded. “I know. But I’m the same as I’ve always been. I’ll wait. I’ve never expected an answer right

away.”

Warmth bloomed in my chest.

He hadn’t changed, still devoted, still patient.

As the ceremony approached, Damon handled the big preparations while I took charge of the venue

decorations.

“He likes this flower. Let’s put more of them.”

“Of course.”

I was focused on checking the arrangements when I heard familiar footsteps behind me.

“Vera.”

I turned around. Seeing Victor there didn’t surprise me.

“If you came to wish me well, you’re early.”

His face was flushed with frustration and resentment. “Wish you well?”

“Vera, you’re forgetting. You’re my fiancee. You were supposed to marry me at that ceremony.”

Victor was trembling.

I adjusted a fork on the table without looking up. “Your memory is bad.”

“The woman you pick in the blind selection ten times. She’s Thornveil Pack’s legitimate Luna.”

“Clearly, that woman isn’t me.”
