“What?!” Victor’s eyes widened. His mind went blank.

“This is real? How did a fire even start?”

He didn’t wait for details. He shoved Yvette aside and ran out of the ceremony.

When he got to the hospital, the fire was already out, and a body was being wheeled out.

“We’ve run the DNA. This is Ms. Vera’s mother.”

Victor’s voice shook. “What about Vera? Where is she?”

The staff member shook their head.

“Someone saw her run into the room, but after the fire started, everything was chaos. No one knows where

she went.”

“As for the cause of the fire, we suspect arson.”

Victor stared at the blackened corpse. His knees nearly buckled.

Vera had fled the party in a panic because she knew her mother was dying. And he had grabbed her, forced

her to apologize to Yvette.

Now this. He didn’t know how he could ever face her again.

Who could have done this?

Then he remembered what Yvette had said, that Vera wasn’t coming back.

Suspicion clawed at him.

When he drove to Yvette’s house, he found her twirling in front of the mirror in her wedding gown, gloating

to a servant.

“The mate bond certificate, the mating ceremony. In the end, everything is mine.”

“From now on, I’m the rightful Luna. Vera probably burned up with her mother. Good riddance.”

The servant nodded obsequiously. “It’s a shame your mother died in that drunk-driving accident. She would have been so proud to see this day.”

Yvette looked up at the family photo on the wall and smiled darkly. “Two birds, one stone. My mother’s wish is finally fulfilled.”

She turned, still basking in her victory, but her smile died when she saw him. “Victor…”

Victor stalked toward her. “How many lies have you told us?”

She shook her head frantically. “Let me explain. I didn’t-”

“You set that fire at the mental hospital!” His voice thundered. “How could you be so cruel?”

Her father arrived on the scene and grabbed her by the shoulders, shaking her. “That was my wife and my daughter! How dare you!”

Yvette’s head snapped to the side. Tears filled her eyes.

“Dad, I’m your daughter too. They’re dead now. You only have me left. And I’m the true Luna. Isn’t that what you always wanted?”

Her father stomped his foot in rage. “Shut your mouth, you ungrateful brat!”

He clutched his chest, weeping.

Victor laughed bitterly. “Luna? You think I’d keep you by my side after this?”

“That fire killed someone. You’re going to pay.”

“If anything has happened to Vera, I swear you will pay with blood.”

Yvette begged. “Victor, please don’t send me to prison. Please!”

“Get off me!”

Victor kicked her away.

He stormed outside and got into his car.

Panic squeezed his chest like a vice.

Victor pressed his fingers to his forehead. “Send everyone to find Vera. I want to see her today.”
