Regret of Two Alphas: I Married the Lycan King Chapter 04

Regret of Two Alphas: I Married the Lycan King Chapter 04

At 1:00 a.m., I couldn’t sleep. The thunder was too loud.

On my phone, Evander posted on social media.

It was a photo of the three of them cooking dinner together, warm and easy. No faces showed.

Just from their silhouettes, you could tell how close they were. There was no place left for me.

After six months, I was used to it. Numb to it.

Until I saw my mom’s comment below. [Eating sweets again? Tell Valeria to go easy on the cake. You two spoil her too much.]

Evander and Jareth’s parents also started commenting. [Let Valeria eat what she likes. When she becomes part of our family as Luna, I’ll buy her cake every day.]

[What? Valeria already agreed to be our family’s Luna when she was eight years old.]

[Stop fighting over her. Evander, you have to bring Valeria home for the holidays. Make me proud, son.]

The comments kept coming. They had all mistaken Arwen for me.

Six months was enough to change so many people and so many things.

I could almost see the past in their words.

I couldn’t hold back anymore. Tears poured down my face.

Maybe it got to them too. They started searching everywhere for me before dawn.

In a daze, I felt someone lift me onto a warm bed.

When I woke up, Jareth, Evander, and Arwen were all sitting by my bedside.

Jareth and Evander’s eyes flickered with something like concern when they saw how weak I was.

But Arwen’s eyes burned with naked jealousy.

Evander sighed. “Valeria, do you even realize what you did? You really shouldn’t have used Arwen’s marriage as some kind of attention stunt.”

When my expression darkened, he softened his tone. “Tell you what. We received an invitation to Alpha Roderick’s mating ceremony. We’ll take you with us.”

“Just the three of us. No one else.”

Arwen’s eyes narrowed. A flash of malice came and went.

I kept my face cold and refused without hesitation. “I can’t go. I’m getting married that day.”

Evander’s forced patience evaporated. “You really don’t know what’s good for you.”

Jareth couldn’t hold back either. He started cursing at me. “Are you done making a scene? Do you really think we’re that stupid?”

“The Bloodthorne Pack already made an official announcement. It’s Roderick Bloodthorne and Nova Crowne’s mating ceremony. And you’re still lying at this point?”

“Valeria, you’ve become absolutely disgusting.”

Watching them rage, I just wanted to laugh.

Nova was my nickname.

Roderick had called me yesterday to discuss the announcement. After hesitating for a while, I decided to use that name.

Because the name Valeria had already been ruined by Arwen.

Mom used to say, if you can’t be the sun, then be the brightest star. So she called me Nova.

I used that name all through elementary school. But now, neither of them remembered.

I didn’t explain. I took all their insults in silence.

Arwen walked toward me carefully, holding a beautifully wrapped gift box. “Valeria, I’m sorry.”

“It’s because of me that you kept lying.”

“This is a little apology gift. I hope you’ll accept it.”

I was tired of her theatrics. I knocked the gift away.

But Jareth scrambled to pick it up, forced it into my hands, and made me open it.

I couldn’t fight him off. Annoyed, I tore open the box.

In a flash, a hideous monster sprang out, right at my face.

Arwen burst out laughing. “Fun, right? We used to do this all the time in college.”

My heart seized. Trembling, I fumbled through my pockets for my medicine.

Seeing my reaction, Arwen pouted. “Jareth, does she not like it?”

Unable to hide his disgust, Jareth kicked me hard. “There she goes again, pretending. Her heart condition hasn’t acted up in over ten years. What a drama queen.”

Just as I touched the pill bottle in my pocket, Arwen swayed unsteadily.

Evander immediately tensed up. “Arwen, is your blood sugar dropping again?”

He snatched the medicine from my hand and, with shaking fingers, fed it to Arwen.

I gasped for air, staring in disbelief at the bottle. The white pills had been replaced with colorful candy.

Jareth said it like it was the most reasonable thing in the world. “What are you looking at? You’re Arwen’s boss. If she has low blood sugar, you should carry medicine for her at all times.”

They had swapped my emergency heart medication for candy. That medicine kept me alive.

Jareth and Evander used to carry my pills on them at all times, just in case.

After Arwen came, those pills became candy for her.

And now, they wouldn’t even let me keep my own medicine.

Arwen perked up instantly after eating the candy. She glanced at her phone and turned to them with a pitiful look.

“Jareth, Evander, Valeria sent that man to my house to cause trouble. I’m so scared. Maybe I should just marry him.”

Jareth and Evander exchanged a look. Without even stopping to put on jackets, they rushed out the door. “Arwen, don’t worry. We won’t let you marry someone you don’t want.”

Then they turned to curse me. “Look at what you’ve done. You bitch. Why don’t you just die already?”

“Do you have any idea how much Arwen means to us? If she gets married, we won’t be able to go on.”

Luckily, the housekeeper showed up in time. Seeing me convulse, she quickly fed me the right medicine.

I barely survived.

After I rested, I thanked the woman, bought a plane ticket, and flew away from that place.
