Regret of Two Alphas: I Married the Lycan King Chapter 02

Regret of Two Alphas: I Married the Lycan King Chapter 02

Six months ago, Evander and Jareth had begun to grow distant, and I didn’t understand why.

So I did something ridiculously childish. I lied and said I had found my fated mate.

At first, Evander and Jareth panicked. They cried and begged me not to form a mate bond.

But for some reason, a few days later, they turned ice cold.

They even brought all our friends and family to my fake ceremony, saying they were there for my ceremony.

But there was no ceremony.

I had nowhere to hide my panic and humiliation.

Later, I found out that Arwen, whom I had trusted completely, was the one who told them everything.

And the reason they had grown cold toward me? Arwen had sabotaged it all.

Thinking back to that incident, Jareth and Evander both scoffed.

But today was my birthday after all. We had promised to exchange gifts.

Jareth tossed me a bouquet of withered flowers and rolled his eyes, muttered, “Happy birthday.”

There was a card attached to the flowers, written for Arwen.

“Princess Arwen, be happy.”

It was dated three days ago.

Clearly, Arwen didn’t want them, so he regifted them to me.

Evander gave me a necklace engraved with Arwen’s name.

He scoffed, “You should be grateful. This is worth tens of thousands of dollars. If Arwen hadn’t thought it was tacky, it never would have ended up with you.”

I clenched my fists.

The diamond part of the necklace had already been removed. All that was left was an empty shell.

I had spent my own birthday flying to a dozen countries and calling in countless favors to find that necklace, because Evander once said he liked it.

Turns out he only wanted it to give to Arwen.

Meanwhile, they picked up beautifully wrapped presents and handed them carefully to Arwen. Gifts piled high in front of her.

The door to the private room was slightly ajar. Passing staff members who didn’t know any better all wished Arwen a happy birthday.

She covered her mouth and smiled smugly. “Oh, everyone’s mistaken. Today is Valeria’s birthday, not mine.”

I stood beside her, holding withered flowers and an empty necklace shell.

I looked pathetic. Humiliated.

After the party ended, Evander and Jareth nearly came to blows fighting over who got to take Arwen home.

I walked alone in the rain for three hours before I finally made it back.

My phone buzzed twice.

A friend texted: [Are you okay?]

That’s when I realized Arwen had posted it on her feed.

In the photo, she was surrounded by two alphas, holding so many gifts she could barely carry them all, beaming with happiness.

I stood alone in the distance, holding a bunch of dead flowers.

The caption read: [Happy birthday to the most adorable Valeria in the whole wide world.]

The humiliation I had tried so hard to hide was now public knowledge throughout the pack.

I took a deep breath, replied to my friend, and started carefully picking out invitations to send.

It didn’t matter. I would be leaving here soon anyway.

The invitation design was finalized quickly. Mom sent over a few samples so I could give them to close friends.

I glanced around the empty house.

This was our old hangout.

But now, they hadn’t come back in a very long time.

They were traveling everywhere with Arwen.

When reporters tried to interview them on the road, Jareth grabbed the microphone and said proudly, “The three of us are the closest friends anyone could have.”

When the topic trended online, everyone envied their friendship.

And I thought to myself, if they’re the childhood friends, then what does that make me?

Ten days before the wedding, Jareth and Evander finally came back.

But both of them looked grim.

I ran over and handed them the two invitations I had gone over countless times.

Even though the past six months had been rough, we had grown up together.

On the day of my mating ceremony, I still genuinely hoped they would come.

But they barely glanced at the name before tearing the invitations apart.

“Haven’t you caused enough trouble? You dare use Roderick Bloodthorne’s name? Do you know who he is? He’s the Lycan King.”

“Look at yourself, what makes you think you’re worthy?”

Jareth’s eyes turned bloodshot. He stepped forward and slapped me hard across the face.

“You bitch! Do you have no heart? Arwen has been so good to you! Why are you pushing her into this?”

“Is your hatred for her really that deep?”

I covered my face, stunned. I had no idea what Jareth was talking about.
