All the colour instantly drained from Jessica’s face.

“What are you doing?”

“Livestreaming.”

“Plenty of people are watching right now. I’m sure they heard every word you just said.”

Jessica lunged towards me and tried to snatch the phone.

Blake immediately stepped in front of the hospital bed and pushed her away.

“You recorded me without my permission! I’ll sue you!” Jessica shrieked.

“Go on, then.” I looked straight at her. “My lawyer would quite like a word with you too.”

As though all the strength had gone out of her, Jessica dropped to the floor.

Just then, a nurse came in carrying the supplements the doctor had prescribed.

“Madison, these are the nutritional supplements the doctor ordered for you. Make sure you take them on

time.”

I accepted them and thanked her.

Jessica suddenly looked up.

“You really are pregnant?”

I didn’t answer.

Blake stood between us, his voice ice-cold.

“Whether my wife is pregnant is the least of your worries right now.”

“You moved company funds without authorisation, took private property, and falsified expense records. Your

lawyer’s going to have plenty to deal with.”

After security took Jessica away, Blake arranged for me to be moved to a quiet private room.

It had everything I needed, and I could finally rest more comfortably.

But after everything that had happened that day, I still didn’t know how to face him.

Blake brought me a glass of warm milk.

“The doctor said you need time to recover. Have a bit of this first.”

I didn’t refuse.

I was pregnant, and I was hungry.

After drinking half the milk, I looked up and found Blake still standing beside the bed, watching me.

“Madison, I’m sorry. This past year was my fault.”

“Jessica told me you were angry with me and didn’t want to see me. A lot of the time, I thought coming home

would only make things harder for you, so I stayed away.”

“From now on, I’ll look after you and the baby properly. Please give me a chance to make it up to you.”

Leaning against the headboard, I looked at him calmly.

“You did put the money into the dedicated account, just like you promised.”

“But you took Jessica at her word. You never once asked me what was actually going on, and you never

bothered to see how I was living. That’s true too.”

“I was so hungry that I passed out. I went months without proper nutrition while carrying your child. You

were my husband, and you didn’t do a single thing you should have done.”

“One apology doesn’t wipe any of that away.”

Blake lowered his head.

“I understand.”

He placed a bank card on the bedside table.

“There’s one and a half million dollars on this card. Keep it yourself. If it isn’t enough, I’ll add more.”

As though afraid I would refuse, he quickly added, “I know you haven’t forgiven me. But until our marriage is officially over, you still have every right to use what belongs to both of us.”

I stared at the card, my thoughts in a tangle.

“Blake, I haven’t decided whether I want to stay in this marriage.”

I still hadn’t decided whether to keep the baby either.

“All right,” he said. “I won’t pressure you. Whatever you decide, I’ll do what I should and take responsibility.”

Half an hour later, Kelly hurried into the room.

The moment she saw Blake, her expression turned cold.

“So you do remember you’ve got a wife. I was beginning to think Harrison Group was too broke to buy her a

single meal.”

Blake didn’t argue.

“I’ll leave you two to it. Call me if you need anything.”

He quietly left the room.

It was the first time I could remember seeing him put aside every trace of his pride.

Kelly rolled her eyes at the door.

“Bit late to start showing he cares, isn’t it? Where was all this before?”

The next second, she leaned down and wrapped her arms around me.
