Pregnant I Took a Bar Job and Heard My Husband Say He Gave Me 400000 Monthly Chapter 05

There was no way I could calm down.

I had scraped by on a hundred and twenty dollars a month while he believed he had been giving me four

hundred thousand.

I slammed the bottle down on the table, splashing liquor across the surface.

Blake had barely got to his feet when I slapped him across the face.

“Tell me something. How many wives have you got?”

His eyes were red, but his answer came without hesitation.

“Only you. It’s always been you.”

I froze, my throat tightening.

“Then why do I only get a hundred and twenty dollars a month? If I’m your only wife, who’s been getting the

four hundred grand?”

The anger vanished from Blake’s face, and he immediately stepped closer.

“I swear, there’s no one else.”

Jack raised both hands.

“I can back him up. He hasn’t been seeing anyone else.”

A sudden cramp twisted through my lower abdomen.

I couldn’t keep pressing them. I sank onto the end of the sofa.

The moment Blake saw how pale I was, panic took over.

He caught hold of me, steadied me, and rushed me to the hospital.

While the doctor examined me, Blake stayed beside the bed, his eyes fixed on the monitor.

“What’s wrong with her?” he asked. “Is she ill?”

The doctor frowned.

“She’s nearly twelve weeks pregnant, and she’s been undernourished for quite some time. Whatever she decides, she can’t keep running herself into the ground like this.”

“What?”

Blake blurted the word out, cutting the doctor off.

He stared at me in shock.

The doctor looked between us as though she had begun to understand what was going on.

“For now, she needs proper nutrition, plenty of rest, and no overexertion. She also needs to keep stress to a

minimum.”

After the doctor left, Blake crouched beside the hospital bed.

“You really are pregnant? Jessica said you were only saying that to get money. I didn’t know. I swear I didn’t.”

I leaned back against the pillow, too weak to muster much anger.

“So Jessica says something and you just take her word for it?”

“No.”

Blake hurried to explain.

“You kept asking for more money those few days, and I was angry. I never checked for myself.”

I couldn’t help laughing.

All the hurt and anxiety I had carried through those days had ended with one simple admission: he had never

bothered to check.

“And you never once checked why I was always short of money either, did you?”

I pulled up my transaction history and handed him my phone.

Blake took it and slowly scrolled through the entries.

Every month, exactly one hundred and twenty dollars had been deposited.

For two months, I had received only one hundred and five dollars, with a note attached:

Fifteen-dollar advance deducted.

Then there was the twelve thousand dollars I had received from selling my handbag.

The same night the money came in, Jessica had transferred out twelve thousand and thirty dollars.

She hadn’t even left me the money Kelly had lent me.

With every transaction Blake saw, more colour drained from his face.

I calmly told him how I had been living for the past year.

“When I couldn’t make ends meet, I tried to find work. You wouldn’t let me. Whenever I asked for more money to live on, Jessica told me I was reckless with money and needed to cut back.”

“I was so hungry I kept getting dizzy, so I took a part-time job at a café. She told you that having me work there would make the group look bad, so you bought the café outright and made sure I couldn’t work there

again.”

“About two weeks ago, I found out I was pregnant. I went to your office to see you, but Jessica accused me

of faking the ultrasound report in front of your staff. She said I was using you like a cash machine.”

My fingers tightened around the bedsheet.

“So I stopped asking you for anything. I took the bar job because I just wanted to save enough for a

termination.”

At those final words, Blake’s head snapped up.
