Not Enough Support From My Husband His Best Friend Stepped In Chapter 05

Caden grabbed his collar. “Have you lost your mind? Your wife has your baby and you let someone else

handle the money? What kind of husband and father are you?”

Bryson finally learned the truth-it had all been Elsie’s doing.

Yet she faced no real punishment.

She was merely stripped of control over the household expenses.

I couldn’t understand it.

“Bryson, after everything she’s done, with a character like this, are you really keeping her around?”

Bryson frowned, exasperated.

“Elsie’s good at her job. Even if she gets no credit, she’s put in the work.”

“Olive, try to be more empathetic. Don’t push people to the wall.”

I stared at him for a long time. Then I laughed.

“Push her to the wall? Bryson, if it weren’t for Caden, your secretary would’ve pushed my baby and me to

ruin.”

“Enough!” His face went dark. “I’ve already restored your allowance to eighty thousand. What more are you fussing about?”

He grabbed his coat and slammed the door.

For a whole week, Elsie kept making excuses-sickness and other trivial matters-and never transferred the

money into my account.

If it hadn’t been for the one hundred thousand Margaret had sent me, plus Caden’s constant help, my baby

and I would have been left with nothing to survive on.

A few days later, Caden’s grandmother got sick back home. He had to leave for a week.

He left me twenty thousand, telling me not to scrimp and spend freely on whatever I needed.

“I’ll bring the best formula for the baby when I’m back.”

But Elsie somehow got wind of it and came to take the money away from me.

“Who knows where this came from. Probably stolen. It should be seized.”

“Olive, you really are something. I guarded against everything, and you still found a way to tell Mr. Carter the

truth.”

She lifted her chin. “Now I’ve lost my financial authority. Happy?”

I stared at her coldly. “Elsie, remember your place. You’re just a secretary.”

Elsie burst out laughing. “So what if I’m just a secretary? Being valued by Mr. Carter beats being a housewife

any day.”

She stroked her million-dollar earrings and necklace, her eyes brimming with arrogance.

“I’ve only been his secretary for half a year, and I already have all this. What about you?” Her gaze drifted scornfully to my baby. “Besides being a breeding tool, what are you?”

“If Mr. Carter actually loved you, would a few words from me turn him against you?”

I had nothing to say.

“Get out, Elsie. You’re not welcome here.”

Elsie refused to leave. Instead, her eyes landed on the baby.

She pinched her nose and said the baby reeked. As Mr. Carter’s right hand, she’d bathe her.

I fought her with everything I had.

“The baby’s only a few months old! She can’t take a bath like this-you’ll kill her!”

But Elsie’s eyes glinted with malice. She shoved me harshly to the floor.

“Mrs. Carter, I get paid top dollar to take some weight off Mr. Carter’s shoulders.”

“It’s just a bath. Kids have strong immune systems. She’ll be fine.”

“And even if something does happen, you’re nothing but a child-bearing tool. Just have another one.”

Satisfied with her cruelty, she turned and left without a care.

“Take this as your warning, Olive. Don’t come begging me for money again.”

That night, the baby spiked a fever. By midnight, she was convulsing, slipping unconscious.

Terrified out of my mind, I held her tiny body tight, rushed to the hospital, and begged desperately the doctors

to save my baby.
