No Longer a Silent Luna Chapter 04

No Longer a Silent Luna Chapter 04

Because I hadn’t reacted the way he expected, Corvin went still.

Even Elara forgot to cry for a second.

”You… you never change. You’re insane.”

After a long moment, that was all he managed to say, ”I’m taking Elara to the pack hospital first. Clean this place up. We’ll talk when I get back.”

He scooped her up and headed for the door.

I got to my room before he could say anything else and shut him out on the other side.

A new email popped up on my phone.

My application to join an Antarctic biology research expedition had been approved.

At almost the exact same moment, my friend called. ”Well? Did you get in?”

”I did.”

”Yes! We’re really going to Antarctica together to see penguins. I begged you forever to join the long-term field team, and you refused every time. What changed?”

A bitter little smile tugged at my lips.

After seven years of being bound to a mate bond, I had nearly forgotten that I used to be an exceptional biologist.

Back in college, my grades had always been outstanding.

I had been offered more than one chance to work overseas, but every single time, I turned it down because of Corvin.

In his eyes, I had always been nothing more than a useless, high-maintenance pack princess.

He had never seen my talent and my achievements.

I used to think he was simply too busy to notice.

Now I understood the truth that he just hadn’t loved me enough.

”I’ll tell you everything when we meet. See you at the airport tomorrow.”

After hanging up, I booked myself onto the same flight as Ariana.

Then I went straight to a law office and had a Mate Bond Dissolution Agreement drafted.

I had barely gotten it in hand when Corvin called.

”Where are you? Come to my company. I need to talk to you.”

So I took a cab there.

But when I arrived, he had already placed his own Mate Bond Dissolution Agreement in front of me.

”Lyra, it’s Elara’s birthday this week. What you said before, calling her the mistress, caused serious damage to her life.”

”The neighbors are all talking about her. It’s been hard on her mentally and emotionally.”

”I’ve decided to publicly claim her as my mate on her birthday to shut down the rumors.”

He paused, then added, ”Don’t worry. One month later, I’ll sever it and bond with you again. You’ll always be my Luna. That will never change.”

I laughed.

At least he had saved me the trouble.

I picked up the pen and signed without a moment’s hesitation.

Maybe because he felt guilty, the property terms in the agreement were surprisingly generous.

But when he saw how decisively I signed, his own hand hesitated over the page.

”Lyra… you’ve changed a lot lately.”

”I know I haven’t cared for you enough. When this is over, I’ll take you on a trip. Just the two of us before the pup comes. You’ve always wanted that, haven’t you?”

Before I could say a word, his phone rang again.

”Corvin, I don’t know how to put the dress on. Come help me.”

His voice softened at once. ”I’m coming right now.”

Before leaving, he looked back at me, uncertain for the first time in a long while.

Then he said quietly, ”Just one month, Lyra. Wait for me.”

I said nothing.

He signed the papers and rushed out.

I went home, packed my bags, and headed straight for the airport.

Ariana was already there, waving at me with a grin.

As the plane lifted into the sky, everything behind me finally seemed to fall away with the clouds.

Corvin, I would never wait for you again.
