Knox walked into the bank and sat down at my counter.

I glanced at the desk next to mine.

“Is there anything else?”

He held my gaze. “I’d like to make a large interbank transfer.”

“How much?”

He named a number.

I barely kept my composure.

“Sir, for that amount, you’ll need to make an appointment.”

“I’ll have to clear it with the branch manager. Please wait a moment.”

I called the manager’s office.

Mr. Ashford told me to bring the client up personally.

I stood. “Mr. Sterling, this way.”

Outside the manager’s office, I spotted Serena sitting on the couch inside.

Mr. Ashford came out to greet Knox with full formality.

Then he turned to me. “Chloe, you can go back to your post.”

“Yes, sir.”

I nodded and turned.

Behind me, Knox’s eyes followed my back until I disappeared down the stairs.
