She watched Knox and Serena check into a hotel together and processed it in zero seconds.

The comments were distracting me.

I wished I could turn them off.

I rubbed my eyes.

I focused.

Two hours later, the class ended.

I stood up, stretched, and walked to the window, pulling it open for some air.

Serena hadn’t logged in once.

She was probably with Knox by now.

They’d crossed that line.

I didn’t regret helping her.

At least I got what I wanted out of it.

I grew up with nothing. No stability, no safety net.

I learned early that waiting for someone to give you security was a losing game.

I let the wind carry away the last thread of disappointment.

Then I blocked Knox.

The next morning at work, Serena showed up late.

She had marks on her neck.

She caught me looking and smirked. “I hit the jackpot.”

I kept my tone flat.

“Congratulations.”

She leaned in, eager to share. “Guess what happened last night-

I cut her off.

“Serena, I’m not interested in the details.”

She studied my face. “Chloe. Are you jealous?”

I didn’t flinch. “I’m busy. No time.”

She laughed. “Good. He’s mine now.”

“Even if you wanted him, it’s too late.”

“We crossed that line. You wouldn’t want someone else’s leftovers anyway.”

She pulled out her lipstick, touched up her makeup, and studied her reflection-

lingering on the marks on her neck with a satisfied smile.
