My Ungrateful Shifter Auctioned Me Away—Now He’s Begging for My Return Chapter 07

To my surprise, Silas and I were extremely compatible.

In every sense.

After that night, I lapsed into a dreamless, heavy sleep that didn’t break until the sun was high in

the sky.

When I woke up, Silas was in the kitchen.

He was clearly flustered.

Somehow, there was dust on his hands, and he had smeared it across his face.

When he noticed me watching, he gave an embarrassed cough.

The housekeeping bot was spinning around the kitchen in a frantic little circle.

Silas kept his face a mask of stoic innocence as he pointed a silent, accusing finger at the machine.

“It did it.”

The bot stopped in place.

Then, very slowly, it turned its body toward Silas.

A huge [?] appeared on its display screen.

I burst out laughing and copied his tone. “It can understand you.”

The afternoon was quiet, and warm sunlight poured through the windows, filling the whole house.

As I wiped Silas’s hands clean, I suddenly thought this was not bad at all.

Then my phone rang, shattering the peace.

Vivienne’s voice came through, furious. “That wonderful shifter of yours.”

“He crawled to me on his knees, begging for a spot in my house.”

“But he wouldn’t let me touch him. I starved him and locked him up, thinking I could train him. I hadn’t even gotten his clothes off before he bit me.”

“What kind of defective little thing did you buy? If he weren’t so pretty, I would have brought out

the whip.”

I listened silently, unmoved.

I had already said it. Since Rowan had decided to leave, there would no longer be a place for him in my home.

“A disobedient shifter is yours to handle however you like,” I said. “Why are you calling me?”

Vivienne gave a cold laugh.

“Oh, I handled him. I had someone throw him out.”

“I’m only calling to warn you. That thing might crawl back to you, since you’re the sucker who used to pay for him.”

The moment she finished speaking, the front door of the estate opened.

Rowan stood at the entrance, pale-faced and completely disheveled.

The moment he saw me, his eyes welled with pathetic, belated realization.

“Evelyn… your sister is insane. She’s completely insane.”

“She dumped me near a landfill. I walked all night just to find you.”

A warning growl rose from Silas’s throat.

He stepped in front of me, his expression turning cold and vicious in a way I had never seen before.

“What home?”

“This isn’t your home.”
