My Ungrateful Shifter Auctioned Me Away—Now He’s Begging for My Return Chapter 06

Silas stayed.

He was completely different from Rowan.

He always paid attention to me.

When I bought fresh meat, Silas refused to let me process it.

“My teeth are fully developed,” he said. “Even if the meat is frozen, I can bite through it.”

“Grinding meat is too tiring. And it takes Evelyn too much time to make those.”

At night, Silas was also unwilling to enter my room.

On the day I decided to let him stay, I had cleared out a guest suite for him.

But one night, when I went out for a glass of water, I found Silas sleeping flush against my door, a single blanket his only cushion against the cold floor.

His tall body was curled up there.

Hearing me move, he opened his eyes slightly and met my gaze in silence for a few seconds.

Then, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, Silas shifted closer to my feet like a sentinel

reclaiming his post.

I did not know how many nights he had been doing that. From that day on, I made him sleep in my

room.

Silas’s breathing grew ragged, and he asked me again and again, “So I’m sleeping with you tonight?”

I frowned at him. Before I could show any impatience, the tips of his ears twitched, and he immediately went inside.

“Good night, Evelyn.”

At first, I did not understand why Silas would rather freeze in the hallway than share my space.

Then I saw him lying with his back to me, his entire body rigid, his tail tucked tightly between his legs.

I leaned against the headboard and kept working.

The shifter on the other side of the bed felt like a block of stone.

When I reached out and touched him, Silas hitched a jagged breath.

I went silent.

Before I could figure out what was happening, Silas turned around.

His golden eyes had gone slightly dark, and the muscles in his neck were pulled tight.

He moved closer to me, carrying a wave of heat with him.

“I’m sorry, Evelyn.”

“Your room, your bed. Everything smells like you.”

“It’s too much. Every breath I take is full of it.”

His hot palm touched my waist.

“I really can’t help it.”

I lowered my eyes to him.

At the same time, Silas lifted his gaze.

There was invitation in his eyes.

And desire.

“Do you want to try with me?”

“Anywhere is fine.”

“Anything a registered companion shifter can do, I can do.”

“I’m sure I can do it… better than Rowan.”

Why would he bring up Rowan at a time like this?

His body heat startled me, and slowly, I set my laptop aside.

A bonded companion helping a guardian release tension was considered one of the most ordinary

parts of the arrangement.

But I had never touched Rowan.

It was not because I had no need.

On the contrary, because of my research work and my complicated family, I needed release more

than most people.

When I first bought him, that reason had been part of it too.

But Rowan was too irritable, too volatile, too prone to unreasonable tantrums.

Interacting with him was like handling unshielded radiation, exhausting and dangerous.

But Silas was different.

His strong hand drew my waist toward him.

He let out a rough breath and asked, “You can handle me?”

I nodded.

Somewhere deep inside, he seemed to sigh.

Then he smiled.

A dark, satisfied shiver rippled through his frame.

Shifters were always fierce about this kind of thing.

They needed intensity, proximity, and the primal confirmation of a bite to truly seal the bond.

Silas was no exception.
