I drove my elbow into him, then quickly put some distance between us.

Lucas doubled over, clutching his stomach as he sucked in a sharp breath of pain.

Only then did I get a clear look at him.

He had a bright, youthful face, and two small fangs showed whenever he smiled. Standing on campus, he could easily have been mistaken for an upperclassman.

He quickly straightened up and approached me again with a smile.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“Sweetheart, it’s me. I’m ‘Sunshine.'”

He tried to hug me again, but I pushed him away without a trace of emotion.

“Please step back. I don’t know you. Touch me again, and I’m calling the police.”

Lucas froze.

He pulled out his phone and looked back and forth between the photo on the screen and my face.

“There’s no mistake. You are my sweetheart.”

“What are you trying to pull now?”

I pulled out my phone and started dialing 911.

Lucas finally realized I wasn’t joking. He snatched the phone away and canceled the call before it could connect.

He moved with an Alpha’s speed, far too fast for me to dodge.

I frowned as I looked through the chat history he held out to me.

“Why do people keep showing up with pictures of me and claiming I’m their online girlfriend?”

“I’ve never dated anyone online.”

Right in front of me, Lucas started a voice call.

The other person answered almost immediately.

He spoke to the woman on the phone, but his eyes never left me.

“Sweetheart, you’re a student at the University of Washington, right?”

“I’m on campus today. Come meet me. I brought you a gift.”

I folded my arms across my chest.

I didn’t need to think about it to know Claire would make up an excuse to refuse.

Sure enough, Lucas ended the call less than two minutes later.

His smile faded considerably, and the citrus in his scent turned sharp.

“Looks like I mistook you for someone else.”

Then, as though nothing had happened, he asked, “You’re one of the greeters, right? Can you show me to the lounge?”

On the way there, he asked me all kinds of detailed personal questions. He even started asking about my family.

Before long, the conversation returned to what had just happened.

“Erin, you said more than one man has approached you with your photos and claimed they were dating you online?”

I had corrected him plenty of times before. We barely knew each other, so there was no reason for him to use pet names. He agreed every time, then slipped right back into them the next time he opened his mouth.

“Yes. A month ago, another man rushed up to me and called me ‘babe.’ He scared me half to death.”

“Someone must have stolen my photos. So if your online girlfriend has been sending you pictures of me too, there’s a good chance you’ve been deceived.”

Lucas didn’t seem particularly bothered. He only smiled and moved closer.

“Can you blame me? You looked so beautiful in those pictures that I was drawn in the second I saw them.”

He leaned close to my ear and added softly, “But you’re even prettier in person. And you smell better too.”

I didn’t believe him for a second. This wolf was far too smooth.

On the surface, however, I lowered my head as though I were shy.

When I looked up again, I saw Sophia and Claire walking toward us from several yards away.

Sophia’s gaze was fixed firmly on Lucas.

She walked over without hesitation.

“Erin, what a coincidence. Who’s this?”
