My Son Called Her Mom So I Named My Price Chapter 06

“Clara? Are you back?”

Adrian hurried out.

He pulled open the bedroom door, only to find Vanessa standing in the living room.

She was holding the bouquet of blush garden roses Adrian had just bought for Clara and was about to walk out with it.

Adrian grabbed her wrist, his brows knitted tightly.

“What are you doing here? Who said you could take those flowers?”

Vanessa seemed not to have expected Adrian to be home.

After a brief flash of surprise, she gave him the same sweet smile she always did.

“Adrian, you’re home.”

“After my mom was discharged from the hospital, she kept saying she wanted to go outside and get some fresh air.”

“But she’s still weak and hasn’t fully recovered yet, so I wanted to add some flowers and greenery at home to give her something pretty to look at.”

“I was planning to ask you to come with me to buy some, but you didn’t answer my calls. I came here looking for you and saw a bouquet in the living room, so I thought I’d take it over and use it for

For some reason, even though Vanessa’s explanation sounded reasonable, an odd feeling stirred in Adrian’s chest.

“Put them down. I bought those for Clara.”

His refusal was blunt.

The smile on Vanessa’s face froze.

She had not expected Adrian to refuse her over something as small as a bouquet of flowers.

“Oh… sorry. Is it because Clara would get mad if she found out? I thought it was only a bouquet and didn’t think it would be a big deal. That was inconsiderate of me.”

“Honestly, Clara really doesn’t appreciate how hard things are for you. You’re so busy every day, but she still gets upset with you over every petty little thing.”

“I actually envy her. She can throw little tantrums like that and still have someone tolerate her, unlike me.”

Adrian’s expression turned completely cold.

It was as if, for the first time, he realized that Vanessa’s words had always been putting Clara down, whether intentionally or not.

“Clara is wonderful. She understands me and cares about me. Stop saying things like that.”

Vanessa could barely keep the smile on her face.

She clutched the hem of her shirt uneasily, and her eyes began to redden.

“I’m sorry, Adrian. I didn’t mean anything by it. I just—”

Adrian cut her off.

“That outfit you’re wearing belongs to Clara too, doesn’t it?”

“I remember this. It was my Valentine’s Day gift to Clara. I never saw her wear it, so I thought she didn’t like it. So this is where it ended up.”

Vanessa looked as if she were about to cry, and she raised her hands to start unbuttoning it.

“Last time I came over, I saw this outfit and thought it suited me. I asked you if I could try it on, and you agreed to let me have it.”

“If that’s the case, I’ll take it off and give it back to Clara.”

Adrian stopped her hand at once.

“Enough.”

“Clara isn’t like you. She doesn’t like wearing or using other people’s castoffs.”

“From now on, if you want something, buy it yourself. Stop taking Clara’s things. She’s too polite to say no, but that doesn’t give you the right to keep taking her things.”

Vanessa opened her mouth, but she could not come up with a single retort.

Just then, a flash on her finger caught Adrian’s attention.

He looked closer and realized that the ring on Vanessa’s ring finger was the engagement ring he had once given Clara.
