My Sister Couldn’t Tame Her Alpha? Fine. I’ll Do It! Chapter 05

xHalfway down, I threw my claws out.

Dug them straight into the rock face. A chunk of stone broke off, my arm screamed so bad I almost let go, but I stopped falling.

Save me? Choose me?

I don’t need anyone to save me. And I’d rather die than let him save her.

I held on tight. One hand, then the other. My wolf roared inside me. The rocks tore my palms to shreds, blood everywhere. Didn’t care.

I could hear noise up top. The search team arrived. Auriel’s crying got louder and softer with the wind.

I hauled myself up inch by inch. Elbow on the ledge first, then knee scraping up, then I stood.

Auriel was still there. Collapsed at the edge, a new rip in her dress, one hand gripping a tree root, face streaked with

tears.

I grabbed her by the collar and yanked her back, tossed her onto flat ground.

She hit the dirt with a choked sound. I stood over her, chest still heaving, blood dripping down my arms.

Footsteps pounded closer. Corvax burst through the tree line running fast. He looked at me first, then at Auriel on the ground. Reached for my arm.

I smacked his hand away. “Don’t touch me. You take one step toward her right now, I’m driving home tonight.”

He froze. Stood there looking at me for two seconds. Then, without a word, he pulled off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders.

His scent-pine-I hated that I could smell it.

I didn’t say thanks.

Auriel sat up. Eyes wide, tears falling right on cue.

“I almost died!” She clutched that torn dress, voice loud enough for the whole clearing to hear. “She dragged me

down with her! Corvax, your mate tried to kill me-and you’re just standing there?”

Wolves poured in behind Corvax. Before she even finished, the murmuring started below.

“Three days here and she’s already pushing people off cliffs

“Eastern outsiders got no manners.”

One after another. I stood there, soaked through, hands covered in blood, watching their faces turn toward me one

by one.

The voices blurred together. Couldn’t make out the words. Outsider. Troublemaker. Trash.

Corvax grabbed my wrist. I thought he was gonna hold me back, tell me not to move, let them say whatever.

Fine. I’d throw the first punch anyway. Deal with the contract later.

“Thera wouldn’t do something like that.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but it cut through all the noise.

“I believe her.”

When he said it, he wasn’t looking at Auriel. He was looking at me. Eyes completely open. No walls.

My breath caught.

Shit. Heart pounding at a time like this-what the hell’s wrong with me.

He turned to look at Auriel. “Auriel. You won the pack sprint last year, right? Your wolf’s one of the fastest we’ve got. If you really fell, you could shift and claw your way back up in a second.”

He glanced around at the others. “Why’d you scream for help?”

Nobody said a word. Auriel’s mouth opened, but nothing came out.

“Get the witch Circe.” Corvax said. “Have her use the moonstone shard. Truth Echo will show us what happened on that cliff.”

A pack elder stepped forward. “Moonstone shard? Alpha, you’re gonna waste the pack’s treasure on something like this?”

“This isn’t something small.” Corvax’s voice dropped. “This is my Luna’s reputation.”

“She drove all day from the east to get here. Her becoming my Luna-that’s the luckiest thing that’s happened to this place.”

He looked at the elder. “Nobody gets to throw dirt on her name. Get Circe. Now.”

The elder’s mouth opened, then closed. He turned and left.

Auriel scrambled up from the ground, still clutching her arm tears and mud smeared across her face. Her voice cracked: “You’re using the moonstone shard on someone who doesn’t even belong here? What kind of Luna is she?

You just picked up a stray off the street.”

I pulled my wrist out of Corvax’s hand, walked right up to Auriel, and slapped her across the face.

Her whole body jerked to the side, hand flying up to her cheek. For that one second, her face showed shock and hatred.

“You hit me?!”

She lunged at me. I caught her wrist and shoved her back again.

“Next time you touch me, it won’t be just a slap.”
