I almost laughed.

“And what makes you think marrying Maris makes up for what you did to me?”

“Don’t you get it yet? I don’t want you anymore.”

The words hit him. He swayed.

Blaise had always been proud. He’d never been humiliated like this before.

Even with all the color drained from his face, he kept staring at me.

“Sable, don’t say that. You’re just angry…”

He reached for me, but Callum stepped in between us.

“I’ve already called the police. Stay away from my wife.”

Where we lived, they didn’t mess around with harassment.

Before long, the cops hauled Blaise off.

“Are you okay?”

Callum looked at me with concern.

I shook my head. “I’m fine.”

But something about how calm he was didn’t sit right.

Sure enough, that night, Callum poured himself a glass of whiskey before bed.

He was a creature of habit. He never drank.

I knew right away that Blaise had gotten to him.

I hesitated for a long time before deciding to talk to him about it.

I didn’t say anything. I just slipped my arms around his neck and kissed him.

I could taste the whiskey.

Then I whispered, “You’ve never really tried to get in. How do you know there’s no room?”

Callum froze. He got it. His ears went red.

“Sable, you can’t ever leave me.’

Then he kissed me hard.

The night passed.

I thought Blaise would finally give up after that.

But the next day, he showed up again.

When he saw the hickeys on my neck, he shook. The pain on his face was unmistakable.

I was tired of saying it.
