Lucien and I both went silent at the same time.

The atmosphere from a moment ago completely shattered.

The floating comments immediately started screaming again.

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! We were literally seconds away from greatness.”

“This aunt-and-nephew duo really showed up just to ruin everybody’s mood.”

“Somebody hand me a sword. I just wanna talk.”

“NOOOOO we almost got the scene!”

I rubbed my burning face in embarrassment.

There was really no helping it now.

After quietly helping Lucien calm down enough to hide his incubus form again, I finally walked over and opened the apartment door.

By then, the police had already arrived.

Two officers stood outside looking exhausted.

“We received a report about an assault,” one of them said.

“We need everyone involved to come down to the precinct.”

Twenty minutes later, we were sitting in a mediation room at the station.

Vanessa instantly started making a scene the second we sat down.

“You little brat, just wait until I get my medical report back!”

She dramatically clutched her side.

“I think this lunatic cracked my ribs!”

Ethan immediately jumped in beside her.

“Annie, why are you making things so ugly between family?”

“Just apologize to Vanessa properly and come home with me. I’ll pretend none of this happened.”

I laughed coldly beside Lucien.

“You want me to apologize?”

“Can either of you even survive hearing what I actually think?”

At the Police Station

Then I turned toward the officers.

“They illegally entered my apartment and attempted to pressure me into a forced marriage arrangement

Vanessa slapped the table furiously.

“I’m her mother! What do you mean illegally entered?!”

I corrected her immediately.

“Stepmother.”

“The kind who secretly accepts money behind my back and tries to steal my apartment.”

Ethan looked genuinely wounded.

“Annie, how can you say that?”

“Vanessa and I were only worried about you.”

“Please,” I said flatly.

“Stop pretending to care.”

I looked directly at Ethan.

“You stole my savings to chase another woman overseas.”

“Then after she dumped you, you developed a gambling problem and came crawling back because you realized I’m financially stable now.”

I smiled coldly.

“You really think I’m stupid enough to fall for this again?”

“OH SHE’S COOKING THEM.”

“Jennie’s verbal attack stat is MAXED OUT.”

“Seriously though, this aunt-and-nephew duo is disgusting. If Annie were even slightly softer, they would’ve destroyed her life.”

“Vanessa knew Ethan had massive gambling debt and STILL tried selling Annie into that marriage for money. Actual villains.”

“And let’s not pretend Annie’s father is innocent either. Otherwise how did Vanessa get the apartment key?”

Lucien looks ready to kill somebody but Annie’s handling it herself so he’s just sitting there staring at her like she hung the moon.”

That last comment made me instinctively turn my head.

And immediately–

I met Lucien’s gaze.

The man was looking at me with literal stars in his eyes.

Pure admiration.

Pure love.

Like watching me verbally destroy people had somehow made him fall even harder.
