My Rich Boyfriend Wanted Me to Spend More, So I Asked for an Electric Bike Chapter 06

One of Vanessa’s friends tugged at her arm.

“Save your breath, Vanessa. She’s an idiot. We’ll have plenty of ways to teach her a lesson later.”

Vanessa gave a short, cold laugh and sat down with her friends. She lifted her chin at me.

“You. Take our order.”

I went over and wrote everything down. For the next ten minutes, they left me alone.

Then I came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of steaming tomato soup.

Just as I reached the table, Vanessa stuck out her foot.

I tripped. The bowl smashed on the floor, spilling most of the scalding soup over my arm. A few drops splashed onto her dress.

Before I could make a sound, she shot to her feet and shrieked, “Are you blind? Do you have any idea how much this dress cost? If you can’t even do your job, you deserve to starve!”

The owner and his wife rushed over and apologized.

“We’re so sorry, miss. Please, let us pay to have it dry-cleaned.”

“Dry-cleaned? You’ll ruin the fabric! You’re paying for a new one.”

“How much is it?” the owner’s wife asked nervously.

Vanessa looked down at her. “It’s custom couture. Twenty-five thousand dollars.”

“Twenty-five thousand?”

The owner’s wife went pale and staggered backward.

I struggled to my feet, my arm burning.

“I’ll pay for it,” I said, my voice shaking. “I just need some time.”

One of Vanessa’s friends snorted.

“So you can go crying to Mr. Hale and play the victim? Forget it. Pay up.”

I thought of the balance in my bank account and bit my lip.

“I don’t have that much right now. Could I pay it off a little at a time?”

Vanessa smiled as if she were doing me a favor.

“Tell you what. There’s another way to settle this.”

“Kneel in front of a livestream and tell everyone you only went after Adrian for his money. Say you never loved him and that you’re nothing but a shameless gold digger. Do that, and you won’t owe

me a cent.”

Right on cue, one of her friends pulled out a phone, started a livestream, and pointed the camera at

The others laughed and egged me on.

“Come on, get down! Stop pretending you have dignity. It’s not like any of it’s a lie.”

“Do you know how many men you’d have to sleep with to make twenty-five grand? All we’re asking you to do is kneel. You’re getting off easy.”

My hands curled into fists.

One moment on my knees, and I wouldn’t owe twenty-five thousand dollars. It should have been

easy.

But for some reason, I felt close to tears, and I couldn’t make myself do it.

The standoff dragged on until one of Vanessa’s friends suddenly screamed.

“Oh my God! Mr. Hale just joined the livestream!”

“He says…” The friend’s voice faltered. “He says if any of us makes Chloe kneel, he’ll bankrupt our

families.”
