My Rich Boyfriend Wanted Me to Spend More, So I Asked for an Electric Bike Chapter 05

I stared at the message, completely confused. I had just started to type another question when my phone ran out of battery and shut down without mercy.

With a sigh, I dropped it into my bag and decided I would deal with it when I got home.

On the ride from downtown back to my neighborhood, I spotted a HELP WANTED sign outside a

restaurant. The pay was better than anything I’d made before, and meals and staff housing were

included.

When I’d dropped out of school to help pay Grandma’s medical bills, I hadn’t found a single job offering that much.

I parked my bike and hurried inside.

The owner seemed surprised when I asked about the job.

“Are you sure you want to wait tables? It’s hard work.”

I nodded without hesitation. “I don’t mind hard work.”

After Adrian began supporting me, I never asked for much beyond Grandma’s medical expenses.

Grandma always said, “Don’t get used to luxuries you can’t afford yourself. It’ll only make it harder

to go back to what you had before.”

I had never forgotten those words. They were what kept me going.

The owner seemed to realize I was serious. After a little hesitation, he agreed to let me come in for a

trial shift the next day.

I thanked him excitedly and hummed all the way home.

I still had my bike and my apartment, and now I had another job lined up.

As far as I was concerned, today was still a good day.

As for Adrian, I had no idea what to do about him, so I pushed the whole thing out of my mind.

The next morning, I showed up on time. I’d waited tables before, so it didn’t take long to get the hang of things. After the lunch rush, the owner’s wife gave me a friendly pat on the shoulder.

“Look at you go! We’d love to keep you on, if you’re interested.”

Her encouragement made me work even harder.

A little after seven that evening, a group of people swept into the restaurant.

Vanessa was out in front, followed by several men and women in expensive clothes.

The moment she saw me, she sneered.

“So this is your latest stunt, Chloe? Did you pick a filthy job like this so Adrian would feel sorry for

you?”

I stood there holding my tray, baffled.

“It’s not filthy. We clean all the time.”

I pointed to the health inspection grade posted on the wall.

“See? We have an A. It’s very clean here.”

For a moment, she seemed lost for words. Then she glared at me.

“Stop playing dumb. This is all another scheme to seduce Adrian.”

I sighed.

“What’s the point of seducing him? He can’t keep me fed forever. Having a job is more important.”
