My Reborn Ex Dumped Me Again. Joke’s on Him, I Married Better Chapter 14

Once Grayson was out of sight, Dorian turned around. He took the sunflowers from my hands.

His other hand found mine with practiced ease. His fingers were warm.

“Does your wrist hurt?”

He looked down at the red marks on my skin and frowned. “Next time you run into someone like

that, call security immediately. Don’t waste words on him.”

I shook my head and suddenly smiled. “Why did you come?”

“You’d been out for half an hour.”

He squeezed my hand. His tone softened. “I was worried you might get lost. I came to walk you

back.”

I blinked. I’d walked these streets plenty of times. There was no way I’d get lost.

He had just been worried about me.

When we got home, Mrs. Farrow already had soup simmering on the stove. She saw us walk in

hand in hand and her smile narrowed her eyes to slits. “You’re back! The soup just finished. Wash

up and eat.”

Dinner was four dishes and a soup. All my favorites

Dorian kept piling food onto my plate until it was heaped full.

After dinner, I arranged the flowers in the living room. Dorian sat beside me, handling work.

Sunlight streamed through the floor–to–ceiling windows, falling warm across the side of his face.

My phone buzzed. A text from Celeste. She called me a whore, accused me of seducing Grayson,

swore she’d make me pay.

I smiled, blocked the number, and forwarded a screenshot to Dorian.

He glanced at it and made a single phone call. He spoke only one sentence. “All partnerships with

the Blackwood Group – terminate them, effective immediately.”

He hung up and looked at me seriously. “From now on, if you get garbage messages like that,

forward them directly to me. I’ll handle it.”

I nodded and tucked the last sunflower into the vase.

The vase sat on the coffee table. The bright yellow petals glowed, almost dazzling.

After that, Grayson’s life fell apart piece by piece.

Without the Harrington contracts, Blackwood Group’s cash flow collapsed. It didn’t last six months

before it went under.

Celeste saw that Grayson was broke. She grabbed whatever money was left, bled the accounts

dry, and fled. Before she left, she sold off his remaining properties.

Grayson ended up buried in debt. He became a punchline, a cautionary tale whispered around

every dinner party.

Someone said they spotted him at a flea market, selling his old watches off a folding table.

Unshaven, unrecognizable.

I felt nothing.

Whether he lived or died had nothing to do with me anymore.

In those days, I spent my time learning to cook with Mrs. Farrow. Occasionally I accompanied

Dorian to the office.

While he held meetings, I read on the sofa in his study. When the meetings ended, he would take

my hand and walk me downstairs to the café that made the mango mousse I loved.

One evening, I was curled up against him watching a movie. I asked him suddenly, “Dorian, why did

you want to marry me?”

He bent down and kissed my forehead. His voice was very soft. “In my last life, I saw you once at

the hospital. You were barely holding on, but you were still pressing candies into the nurse’s hand,

apologizing for the trouble. I thought then, if there was ever a next life, I would bring you home and

cherish you properly.”

I froze. Then tears spilled down my face.

So the luck I’d found in this life hadn’t come from nowhere.

All along, in a place I had never seen, someone had been quietly holding onto me across two

lifetimes.

The sun was warm outside the window. I leaned against him, listening to the steady beat of his heart. Suddenly, I understood.

This life was good.

No more bending to please anyone. No more swallowing grievances. No more crying alone in the

dark.

I had finally found a home that belonged to me.
