My Parents Chose My Twin and Called Me Fake? Fine—I Found a Better Alpha Father! Chapter 05

A year passed, and it was my birthday again.

Dad and Mom left the house early, driving at breakneck speed.

Dad gripped the steering wheel, brimming with excitement and nervousness.

“You did bring the real bloodline test results, right?”

Mom nodded. “I have them. We haven’t seen Leanna for a year. When she comes home, we’ll make it up to her.

Dad sighed with relief and even managed a smile.

“Absolutely.”

“I’ve already talked to the elders. Hannah’s far too frivolous to lead the pack.”

“Leanna has endured hardships this year; she must have matured. She won’t bully Hannah

anymore.”

“At tonight’s birthday banquet, I’ll announce she’s the new Alpha heir.”

Mom’s eyes glistened with tears.

“She’ll be overjoyed.”

If I had been there, I would’ve burst out laughing.

How could they be even more naive than I once was?

The car pulled up outside the shabbiest apartment building in the neighborhood.

The couple rushed out, navigated the messy stairwell, and headed straight for Doyle’s door.

They knocked repeatedly, but no one answered.

Finally, a woman from the next door stuck her head out.

“Stop knocking. Doyle got arrested a year ago.”

Dad frowned.

“Arrested? What for?”

The woman looked them over.

“Why do you think? Tried to rape the girl he brought here a year back. Got caught in the act.”

Mom’s vision darkened; she nearly fell.

Dad staggered as if punched. It was a long moment before he found his voice.

“Did he… have many girls here? A year ago?”

“Many? Just one.”

“He claimed she was his long-lost daughter, finally found.”

“Yes, she was his daughter!”

Mom suddenly raised her voice, as if grasping at a lifeline.

“That was his daughter. How could he possibly touch his own child? There must be a mistake.”

She seemed to think that if she shouted loud enough, the truth would retreat.

But the woman looked confused.

“Daughter? What daughter?”

“Everyone knows Doyle can’t have children.”

“Look at him-could he really father such a beautiful young girl? Who’s he trying to fool?”

“You know, the walls in this building are paper-thin.”

“The night Doyle got arrested, that girl’s screams woke half the building.”

Mom stumbled back, her hand flying out to clutch the grimy railing.

She had a severe germ phobia.

In that moment, she didn’t even notice the filth coating her palm.

She just stared, muttering.

“It’s not possible. You’re lying.”

“You have to be lying.”

The woman waved her hand dismissively.

“Why would I lie to you? Ask anyone here-they’ll tell you the same thing.”

“That girl had only been here a few days before Doyle started making his moves.”

“Absolute monster.”

She spoke with gruesome relish, oblivious to the blood draining from their faces.

Dad’s large frame trembled like a leaf in a high wind.

It took everything he had to keep his knees from buckling.

“The girl… what happened to her?”

“How would I know?”

The woman sighed.

“After Doyle got dragged away, she never came back.”

“Honestly, she didn’t look like she’d survive the night.”

“Such a young thing, and so innocent-looking.”

“I wonder who her real parents are. If they knew what happened, their hearts would break.”

Finally realizing something was wrong, she asked.

“Say, who are you two anyway? Don’t tell me that girl was…”

Could they bring themselves to admit it?

“No.”

“We’re just passing through.”

Stumbling and supporting each other, they fled the building as quickly as possible.

They sat in the car in complete silence.

After an eternity, a stifled sob escaped Mom’s lips.

She buried her face in her hands, completely falling apart.

“My Leanna… my baby girl…”

She grabbed her bag and started hitting Dad violently.

“It’s all your fault! Your stupid idea!”

“If you hadn’t let that disgusting pig Doyle take her away, nothing would’ve happened to my

Leanna!”

“My precious daughter…”

“Give her back to me!”

Dad sat there, face white as a sheet, like an empty shell.

He took the blows.

Only when she was spent, collapsed over the dashboard, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe,

did he lift a trembling hand.

He made a call.

A single, raw command: “Find her.”
