Instead of playing the footage my parents had gathered of me studying hard, the big screen showed a clip

from the day I’d discovered the truth about the milk.

In the video, I was throwing a tantrum, yelling at my whole family.

All the evidence of Ruby drugging me had been edited out.

Only my harshest, most aggressive words remained.

People who didn’t know the truth would only see me as rude, cruel, and ungrateful.

Sure enough, the guests started whispering.

But unlike what Ruby had imagined, they didn’t all turn against me.

Most of them actually attacked my parents instead.

“Is that the older daughter of the Silverstein pack in the video? She’s definitely rude, but parental guidance

matters. If a child turns out like this, the parents bear most of the blame.”

“Exactly. Instead of reflecting on themselves, they’re airing their child’s worst moment in public. That’s not

discipline. That’s humiliation. Are they trying to make sure that girl never recovers from this?”

Someone thought of the huge banner at the entrance of the ballroom.

They quickly offered their own explanation.

“This has to be favoritism.”

“They’re bragging about their younger daughter’s achievements while exposing their older daughter’s

so-called bad behavior. If that’s not tearing one child down to lift another up, what is?”

The others suddenly understood what they thought was happening.

Their disgust for my parents grew.

“How terrible. Both girls are their daughters. How can they be so biased?”

Luna Elena and Alpha Victor heard every word clearly.

Their bright smiles slowly stiffened.

Then their faces turned pale.

They knew they’d neglected me in the past.

But they were trying to make up for it now.

This college admission celebration was supposed to be their apology to me.

Instead, it had turned into a public attack on me and a public trial of them.

They felt more confusion than anger.

They’d clearly changed the name on the banner to Ruby Silverstein.

So why were the guests all saying the top score belonged to Ruby?

And what about that video? They’d never sent those clips to anyone.

How did they end up on the screen today?

They immediately tried to find Ruby, since she’d been in charge of both the banner and the video. They needed an explanation.

As it happened, they overheard Ruby on the phone with her best friend.

Only then did they learn the truth.

Just like the spiked milk, everything that happened today had been Ruby’s doing.

The mistake on the banner wasn’t a print shop error.

From the start, she’d submitted a version with her own name on it.

The pen she’d handed them was an invisible ink pen.

Once the ink was exposed to air, the writing disappeared.

The video that smeared me had also been edited and swapped out by Ruby.

“She just got lucky with one high score. So what? She’s never been better than me at anything.”

“Today was supposed to be my moment to shine. I was never going to let her steal my thunder.”

Ruby’s eyes burned with hatred.

“I did it on purpose. I wanted to humiliate her. I wanted everyone to know I’m better than Selene.”

She spat out the words through gritted teeth.

She hung up and turned to walk back to the ballroom-and in that instant, a sharp crack rang out.
