In the end, my Alpha parents decided to take Ruby out to dinner.

Before they left, Ruby glanced at me. “Selene, do you want to come?”

Before I could answer, Silas spoke first. “She never eats with us anyway. You know that.”

Then he shot me a disgusted look. “She’s not warm at all. Having someone so cold in the family is embarrassing.”

His words burned my cheeks.

At that moment, I wished I could disappear into the ground.

But what hurt most was the injustice of it all.

Ruby loved spicy food.

Every time we went out together… they’d choose Firefang Tavern.

My stomach was sensitive. I couldn’t handle it.

I’d just sit there eating plain bread while everyone else feasted.

Then my parents would accuse me of being difficult.

They said I was ruining Ruby’s appetite.

After enough times, I stopped going.

My silence never worried them.

Instead, it only proved that I was cold-hearted.

Ruby stuck out her tongue and stopped trying to convince me.

After she followed Luna Elena and Alpha Victor out the door, I went into the kitchen alone and made myself a simple bowl of herb noodles.

I sat at the table by myself and read a book in silence.

Then I took my bowl to the sink and washed it quietly.

The moment I put down the dishcloth, my phone rang.

It was Mom.

After dinner, they’d taken Ruby to the pack market for clothes.

Mom pointed the camera at a row of T-shirts behind her. “What color do you like? Pick one.”

I hesitated between blue and white.

Luna Elena waved her hand like money wasn’t an issue. “Wrap up both.”

As soon as the call ended, I broke down crying.

But this time, they were tears of joy.

Compared to Ruby’s expensive designer dresses, those T-shirts were nothing.

But at least it proved my mother still thought of me.

For a moment, I even wanted to change my college application back.

Maybe I did want to stay with my parents after all.

Soon after, they came home.

As I expected, Luna Elena, Alpha Victor, and Silas walked in, their arms loaded with shopping bags—dozens of them.

Every single one held the latest collection from luxury boutiques, all for Ruby.

I rushed over and reached for what I thought was my shirt.

Then I heard Ruby gloating, “What a deal. All of these came to about seven thousand dollars. And they even threw in two T-shirts for free.”

My hand froze mid-air.

So they hadn’t changed after all.

They still hadn’t started caring about me.

Bitterness surged in my throat.

“Give those T-shirts to whoever you want. I don’t want them.”

I let go and ran to my room.

The moment I closed the door, I couldn’t hold back my tears anymore.

Their complaints drifted through the crack.

“Unbelievable. Ruby kindly gave her two new shirts, and she can’t even be grateful.”

“Where did she get that stubborn temper from?”

Silas chimed in, “Exactly. She’s nothing like Ruby. No wonder we don’t like her.”

Then he went even further, asking my parents directly, “Are you sure you actually had twins back then? God, if Ruby were my only sister, it’d be perfect.”

Don’t worry. Your wish will come true soon.

I said it silently in my heart.

Soon, Silas wouldn’t have this nuisance around anymore.

Mom and Dad wouldn’t have this unlikeable daughter either.

I’d stop begging for love I’d never get.
