Of course. The one thing I was scared of. Should’ve aimed my anxiety at getting into Harvard instead.

Walking home, I ran into a group of thugs. Under duress, I lost twenty bucks and gained a bubble tea.

The next day, I dragged myself to school, completely defeated.

Orion glanced at me wilting and lowered his voice. “What’s wrong?”

I sprawled across my desk, lifeless. “I’m done bullying you. The whole tough-girl act doesn’t work.”

“Why?”

“Some guys robbed me yesterday. Took twenty bucks.”

“What?”

This clearly shook him. Badly.

I hurried to soothe him. “It’s fine. Don’t be scared. Even if it happens again, it’s just twenty bucks.”

“I’m not scared.” He stopped mid-sentence and switched tracks. “Forget it. Tell me what he looked like.”

I thought back. “Uh. His hair looked like a messed-up dip-dye. You know. Bleached blonde growing out, dark

roots showing.”

Orion cracked a smile. “Got it.”

He pulled out his phone and typed fast. No idea who he was messaging.

Guilt prickled at me. I muttered, “I always felt bad about bullying you. Since the act doesn’t work anyway, I’ll

stop.”

Orion didn’t even look up from his phone. “Who says it doesn’t work? Ever think maybe you’re just not

bullying hard enough?”

I stared at him. “What?”

He lifted his eyes. Behind his glasses, his gaze was sharp and cold. “You haven’t noticed that ever since you

bullied me in class, everyone’s been afraid of you?”

I nodded. He was right. That morning, the kid who collected the homework practically bowed when he got to

my desk.

Orion’s expression softened again. “After school. When the crowd at the gate is at its peak, you’re going to

bully me. Hard. I guarantee no one will ever touch you again.”
