My Mean Boyfriend Had Two Completely Different Faces—So DO I Chapter 08

Word about that night spread through campus like wildfire. 

The students who had been waiting for me to go crawling back to Reid Sterling, expecting a front–row seat to my desperate breakdown, finally started to realize something. 

My breakup wasn’t a joke. 

But I didn’t have time to worry about campus gossip. In the 

Academic Advisor’s office, I was reeling from a sudden 

bombshell. 

“The school wants to nominate me for an exchange program 

in Eldoria?” 

Mrs. Dern, my advisor, nodded, her eyes full of pride. “Yes.” 

My excitement lasted all of two minutes before reality came 

crashing back. I gripped the hem of my shirt, my voice 

trembling. 

“But you know my situation, Mrs. Dern. The cost of studying 

abroad is insane. I can’t afford that.” 

She gave me a kind smile and said. 

“We’ve applied for a full–ride grant for you. It covers all tuition fees, and the host school has a dorm room reserved for 

you. If you pick up a part–time job there, you’ll be set for living 

expenses.” 

Studying abroad had always been the dream. Hearing that she had already handled the logistics made my eyes sting. I gave him a deep, grateful bow. 

“Thank you, Mrs. Dern. Truly.” 

I left the office and immediately started gathering my documents, but I couldn’t find my ID card anywhere. 

Then it hit me. During our trip last month, Reid had tucked my license into his wallet for safekeeping. 

The last thing I wanted to do was call him, but this wasn’t the 

time for pride. 

It took forever for the call to connect, and when it did, a high–pitched, girlish “Hello?” answered. 

My grip tightened on the phone. “Put Reid on.” 

Lexi Watson let out a tiny giggle. 

“Ella? You can tell me whatever it is. I don’t think Reid really 

wants to talk to you right now.” 

Before I could snap back, I heard Reid’s lazy voice in the background. “Who is it?” 

The background erupted into jeers. 

“Who else? Ella finally couldn’t take it! She’s calling to beg for a second chance!” 

“Damn, Reid, you really have that simp trained, don’t you?” 

Reid finally took the phone. 

“Ella, haven’t I told you? I don’t do ‘round two.‘ We’re over. Why are you calling me?” 

I swallowed my rage. “You still have my driver’s license. Where are you? I’m coming to get it.” 

On the other end, the silence was deafening. 

Reid’s smug smirk vanished, his voice suddenly sharp. “That’s 

why you’re calling? For that?” 

“Yes,” I said. “That’s it. Where are you?” 

Reid looked like he wanted to curse, but with his friends 

watching and egging him on, he forced a breath. “The Velvet Lounge. VIP Booth.” 

I hung up without a second thought. Reid stared at his phone, his face darkening at the sound of the dial tone. 

His closest bud wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. 

Unlike the others, he saw exactly what was happening. 

Ever since I’d initiated the breakup, Reid had been on a downward spiral. 

He’d constantly check his phone for notifications, and when 

he didn’t see what he wanted, he’d slam it face–down on the sofa in a silent rage. 

Furthermore… Reid’s bud really wished his eyes weren’t so 

sharp. 

I’d left my Custom Engraved Band behind when I moved out, 

but Reid was still wearing his. Whenever he was agitated, he’d spin the silver band around his finger unconsciously. 

Seeing Reid’s sour expression, that best friend leaned in. 

“Reid, don’t listen to her. She ‘needs her ID card‘ right when 

you’re out with Lexi? Please.” 

“She’s clearly jealous. It’s just a pathetic little trick to get your 

attention.” 

Reid paused, his hand halfway to his drink. “You think so?” 

The friend slapped his palm for emphasis. “I know so!”
