My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 09 The Thorn Cliff Pack

Bella’s POV

I came back to the world slowly.

It’s hard to describe, but I just sort of drifted back. I’d been dead, I was pretty sure of that. Or somewhere in between. All I remember is a soft pink haze and a feeling of contentment.

But then, I was back. I could feel my body again. I could feel my heart beating. I stayed like that for I don’t know how long. Until, eventually, I opened my eyes.

I saw a ceiling. High and vaulted. It was made of dark wood with exposed beams. Sunlight poured through tall windows to my left. The light was golden. It was afternoon, or maybe late morning.

I was in a bed. It was unfamiliar. It was softer than my bed.

This was not my room.

I tried to sit up and immediately regretted it. My stomach muscles seized. My arms shook. A wave of dizziness rolled through me so hard I had to close my eyes. I gripped the sheets and waited for the room to stop spinning.

Then I pushed myself upright.

I looked down at myself. I had clean clothes. I was wearing a soft linen shirt and loose pants, both in muted gray. Someone had changed me. The wine-stained dress was gone.

It all came flooding back to me. The banquet. Madison’ accusation. The dungeon and the guards. The wizard’s table.

The red hot pain.

The contract.

Snow’s pleas of desperation. My shallow breath.

My wrists had faint red lines on them. From where the restraints had dug in. They were already fading but they were still visible. I touched one with my fingertip.

Then I reached inward.

This was the part I was afraid of. I could still feel the sensation of Snow being torn from my body. I was terrified that I would reach for her and that she wouldn’t be there.

But she was.

I felt her.

She was weak and hurt. But she was there.

I didn’t know how that was possible. I didn’t question it though. Relief flooded through me.

“Hello.’

A voice startled me. It was a male voice. My eyes widened. I clenched the sheets to my chest.

“You’ve been asleep for two days.”

The voice came from the corner of the room. I looked in that direction.

There was a man was sitting in an armchair by the window. He was half in the shadow, half in the light.

He’d been so still that I hadn’t noticed him.

He stood up. He was taller than Silas, with broader shoulders. His dark hair was cut shorter that Silas’s too. It had a slight wave to it. His features were sharp, with high cheekbones and a strong jaw.

His eyes were amber. Deep, burnished amber, like thick, raw honey. They settled on me with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine.

He had an alpha presence. A strong one. Stronger than Silas’s.

He stepped fully into the light. Then he crossed toward the bed.

“My name is Caleb,” he said. His voice was deep. “I’m the Alpha of the Thorn Cliff Pack. You’re at my estate, about eighty miles north of Ashwood Forest.”

I processed this in fragments. Caleb. The Thorn Cliff Pack. Eighty miles. North.

I’d heard of the Thorn Cliff Pack. Everyone had. They were the wealthiest, stronger pack in our region.

“How did I get here?” I asked.

His lips tugged into a smile. “I brought you here.”

“Why?”

He stopped at the foot of the bed.

“That’s a longer answer,” he replied. He paused, studying my face. “How are you feeling?”

“Like I died.”

He chuckled. “You nearly did.”

I touched my chest.

“My wolf is alive. She shouldn’t be. I was at a wizard’s house. He was performing an…an extraction. I felt her. She was ripped from me…” My voice cracked. I swallowed and tried again. “I felt her die.”

“She didn’t die.” Caleb said it simply. “She’s strong. She held on. Barely. But she did. I found you just in time.”

The questions were piling up faster than I could sort through them.

How was I alive? How was Snow alive? Who was this man? Why had he intervened?

What did he want?

“Does my pack know?” I asked.

He shook his head.

“No one from the Howling Moon knows you’re alive,” Caleb told me. “As far as they know, you died on the wizard’s table. No one will touch you here. You’re safe.”

I looked at him.

He didn’t look at me with pity. And he didn’t look at me with disgust. His eyes sparkled. He cocked his head to the side.

“Why did you save me?” I asked. “You don’t know me.”

“I’ll explain everything. But you need to rest first. You’re still weak.” He walked to the door. He paused with his hand on the knob and looked back at me.

“I had a doctor examine you while you were unconscious. Your illness-the Veilrot. She’s working on it.”

His words landed hard. He said it so plainly. Like it was the most obvious thing to do.

“You did?” I asked.

“Of course,” he replied. “You’re sick. You need help. What else would I do?”

“I…” I stammered. I didn’t have the words. I’d begged my own mate for help. But this man, this complete stranger, had offered it willingly. Without even being asked. “Thank you,” I swallowed.

“You’re welcome,” he replied. Then he flashed me a half-smile. “Rest,” he told me. “Regain your strength. You don’t have to worry about anything except for getting well.”

“I still don’t understand,” I said. “Why did you save me.”

He paused. A shadow crossed his face. When he replied, his voice was low. It sent a shiver down my spine.

His entire demeanor shifted. The calm smile left his face. He narrowed his eyes. A fist clenched at his side. He looked at me. There was something in his eyes I

couldn’t quite place. The air in the room went tense.

“Because Bella,” he said. “You belong to me now.”
