My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 08

My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 08 Madison’s Confession

Silas’s POV

I don’t remember the run back. I let out Baxter to rip through the forest. I was in a blind rage. Bella’s dead body swarmed through my mind. I couldn’t believe this had happened. I felt a surge of guilt. I should have listened to the wizard when he first called me.

I never should have trusted Madison.

And now, Bella was dead.

My wolf tore through the forest, his paws tearing at the earth. The branches whipped across my face, his anger fueling him on.

I hit the Howling Moon territory boundary at a full speed. I didn’t slow down. Not until I reached the pack grounds. I tore through the streets. People watched me as I went by. They cowered at the sight of my full Alpha wolf.

Good. They should. Baxter was a force to be reckoned with.

I shifted back behind the packhouse.

Madison’s bedroom was on the third floor of the packhouse. It was a spacious suite that she’d decorated with silk curtains and fresh flowers. It was funded by pack money that should have gone to border patrols and winter supplies. I saw it now, so clearly. All the money she’d been spending, frivolously.

I found her exactly where I expected she’d be. She was sitting at her vanity, brushing her hair.

“You’re back,” she said, turning around to great me. Then she took one look at my face and her smile fell clear off her face.

“You killed her. Your own sister,” I said, my voice low.

She held up her hands.

“Silas, I can explain,” she said.

“I’m waiting.”

She inhaled a deep breath, collecting herself. Then she set down her brush. She folded her hands in her lap.

“My wolf isn’t in a coma,” she said.

The words dropped into the room. I said nothing.

“She never was. Not really.” Her voice was flat and devoid of tone. “I’ve been suppressing her with herbs. For years. Eight years to be exact. A healer in the next territory showed me how. It’s a combination of sullenflower and silverthorn. I take it daily. It keeps my wolf dormant. It makes it look like she’s in coma.”

“Why?” My mind spun. She was telling me this so matter-of-factly. I was grappling to understand.

“Because I had to,” she shrugged. She looked at me without flinching. “The Moon Goddess chose the wrong sister. She should have chosen me. But when she chose Bella…well…all the attention turned to her. So I had to do something. To elicit sympathy. So I took the herbs. And I waited for you to realize that you loved me. ME. Not her.” She stood up. “We’re supposed to be together. I know you know that. But there’s something you don’t know.”

She lowered her eyes.

“Keep going,” I said.

“Bella’s wolf, Snow, is very strong. She’s much stronger than mine. She would defeat me in a fight. And I couldn’t take that chance. If you rejected her, and then she decided…” Her voice trailed off.

“To challenge you?” I finished for her.

She brought her eyes up to mine.

“Yes,” she said.

It was possible. I understood what she was saying. If I rejected Bella and named Madison Luna, Bella could challenge her to a wolf fight. If Bella won, she could reclaim her position. It has happened before.

“So you did all of this out of fear?” I asked.

“I corrected an imbalance.” Madison’s chin lifted. “She shouldn’t have the stronger wolf. She shouldn’t be your mate. So yes. I found Mustor through a contact in the Northern territories. I told him I wanted a full extraction. He was willing to do it. I knew that would kill Bella’s wolf. And I’d never have to worry about her challenging me to a fight.”

She paused.

“But I also knew she’d never sign a contact like that. So I tampered with it. I had a witch cast a temporary glamor spell over the contract. To…skew the wording.”

“She thought it was a Rebirth Ritual,” I told her. “She thought she was helping you.”

“I know,” Madison said.

“And the other contract? The one you showed everyone at the Summer Solstice banquet? That was a forgery too?”

“Yes. It wasn’t my original plan to pin my wolf’s coma on her. That idea came to me after. I figured it everyone hated Bella, it would be easier for you to reject her. Please know, Silas.”

She took a few steps towards me. She batted her eyelashes, innocently, demurely. “Everything I did, I did out of love for you.”

She reached for my hand but I cast her off.

“You killed your sister,” I told her.

“I didn’t know she’d die,” Madison said.

“Well she did.”

There was a silence between us. She reached for my hand again. But again, I shucked her off.

This was too much. She was too conniving. Too dishonest. She’d orchestrated everything and now Bella was dead.

I narrowed my eyes.

“Guards,” I called out.

Her eyes widened.

“No, wait. I only wanted what was mine. You can’t…”

“Guards,” I called more loudly. Two guards appeared at the door.

“What are you doing? No, Silas, please.” She clutched at my shirt. I could see the fear in her eyes.

“Take her to the dungeon,” I told the guards. They came forward. They grabbed her elbows. She called out, her voice frantic.

“Wait,” she said. “What are you doing? Where are they taking me?”

“To the dungeon,” I told her. “You are pathetic. You disgust me. I can’t even wrap my mind around what you’ve done. You killed your own sister in cold blood. I never want to see you again. You’re not my problem anymore. The council will deal you.”

“No, Silas. The council will… they’ll exile me. I’ll be a rouge. Please, just wait.”

I turned away from her. I couldn’t stand the sight of her. Not after what she’d done. Her screams could be heard all the way down the hall as they dragged her down to the dungeon.

Later that day, I went to Bella’s room. I opened her drawer and found the medial report from Dr. Wendell. There it was, clear as day:

Viscusos. Eight months to live if left untreated.

Bella had asked me for help. She’d asked me for money to save her. I’d brushed her off. I’d ignored her.

I clutched the report to my chest and lowered my head as waves and waves of guilt washed over me.

“I’m so sorry,” I whispered, alone in her room. Her room stilled smelled like her, jasmine and vanilla. “I’m so sorry for everything.”
