My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 10 Daskus And Snow

Bella’s POV

The smell of fresh bread woke me up.

Fresh bread and coffee.

My body was stiff. But the pain had receded. I managed to sit more easily this time.

I glanced around the room and remembered where I was. At the Thorn Cliff Pack. Caleb had rescued me. Somehow, I’d survived the wizard’s extraction ritual.

Looking beside me, I saw a tray sat on the nightstand. Bread, still warm. A dish of golden honey. Sliced fruit, too. Red apples, figs, something purple I didn’t recognize. There was a pot of steaming tea. This was real food. Good food.

My stomach growled.

I ate slowly. The bread was extraordinary. The honey was thick and sweet. The tea was chamomile, my favorite. I looked out the window while I ate. I felt my body regaining its strength, fueled by the food.

The Thorn Cliff Pack’s estate sprawled out for miles and miles. Green hills rolled in gentle waves, dotted with wildflowers. I saw a training yard that occupied a flat stretch of ground to the east. Warriors were out on the grounds, practicing combat drills..

This was a very rich pack. It oozed wealth. The grounds were clean. Even the bedroom I was in dripped of opulence.

It was everything the Howling Moon pack was not.

I heard a knock at the door. I set down my tea.

“Come in,” I said. I sat up straighter smoothing out the blanket on my lap.

Caleb entered. He was wearing a dark shirt, with the sleeves rolled to the elbows.

My eyes glanced to his strong forearms. He locked his eyes on mine and my breath hitched in my throat.

He was devastatingly handsome. I could see that now. Masculine and strong. His presence had the alpha authority.

But there was kindness in his amber eyes.

He sat in the same armchair as before. The leather creaked as he sat down.

“Are you feeling better?” he asked. His voice sounded sincere.

“A little, yes,” I told him. “Thank you. For the food.”

“The doctor said you need calories. Your body’s been through a trauma.”

“That’s one word for it,” I said sarcastically.

“I’m glad to see you’re eating,” he said.

I set the tray aside and faced him. “I still don’t understand though,” I told him. “How did I survive? How did you find me?”

He leaned forward, his elbows on his knees. He clasped his hands loosely.

“Well,” he said. “Two days ago, I was running the northern edge of our territory. It was just a routine patrol. My wolf does it most mornings. He loves to run.” He paused. “But about two miles into Ashwood Forest, my wolf picked up something. It wasn’t a scent. Not exactly. It was…something else. He described it as a pull.”

“Your wolf did?” I asked.

“Yes. He said it was a strong pull. Like a magnet. He wouldn’t let it go. He was insistent that we follow it. So we did. We followed the pull. It led us deep into the forest, past the territory lines. We came upon a clearing. It was full of wildflowers. And in the center of the clearing…”

He stopped. His jaw tightened.

“The wizard?” I asked.

“The wizard, yes,” Caleb confirmed. “He was there, but so were you. He was laying you on the ground, preparing a death ritual. He was going to send you back into the earth.”

Caleb paused and looked down at his hands.

“At first, I thought you were dead,” he continued. His voice was even, but his hands had tightened around each other. “You looked dead. You had no pulse. You weren’t breathing. Your skin was…” He stopped again.

“But?” I prodded.

“But my wolf did something he’s never done before.” Caleb’s amber eyes met mine. “He howled. Not an ordinary howl. It was something deeper. Something that came from a place I didn’t know existed. The sound of it rattled the clearing. The flowers shook. the trees trembled. It was unlike anything I’d ever heard. And that’s when I felt it.”

Again he paused. His eyes were locked onto mine.

“Felt what?” I asked.

“Your wolf,” he replied.

The breath left my lungs.

“She was alive?” I whispered.

“Barely. But yes. She was clinging to life by a thread. But she reached out to Daskus, my wolf. He latched onto her. Daskus went berserk. He pushed against me with such force, I had no way to stop him. I shifted and leapt towards you. He picked you up in his teeth, gently. Then he tore away from the clearing. He brought you all the way back here.”

I stared at him. The image of it, this man, in wolf form, carrying my dying body through eighty miles of forest…my mind could barely process it.

“I called our pack doctor. Daskus held onto to Snow, your wolf. The doctor explained that Snow was anchoring you, not allowing you to cross over to the place after death. You were held in a sort of limbo. She was keeping you alive, in a sense. My doctor was able to heal your body.”

“I still don’t understand,” I shook my head. “How did your wolf…”

“Daskus,” he said.

“Daskus,” I repeated. “How did he reach Snow?”

It didn’t make any sense. Wolves can only reach the wolves they’re mated to. My wolf was mated to Baxter, Silas’s wolf. There was no way Daskus should have been able to help my wolf, Snow.

Caleb held my gaze. For a moment, he didn’t speak.

“Maybe you’re still too weak to feel it,” he said. A smile flickered across his face.

“Feel what?” I asked. A tingle ran down my spine.

“The bond,” he said.

My mouth went dry. Bond? What was he talking about? We had no bond.

“You’ll feel it soon enough,” he told me.

“Wait. Are we…mates?” I asked him. He chuckled and shook his head. His next words knocked the breath right out of my chest.

“Not just mates,” he replied, “We’re Moon Mates.”

“Moon mates?” I whispered.

“Yes,” he nodded. Then he came towards me. He cupped my chin in his hand. His eyes were intense. “You belong to me now, Bella.”

His voice had changed. It was low. With an edge to it.

Dangerous almost.

“The doctor said you’re well enough now,” he told me.

“Well enough for what?” He still had my chin in his hand. A shiver ran down my spine.

His next words came out a growl.

“To give yourself to me.”
