My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 07 Death Ritual

Silas’s POV

Three days passed, and not a word from the wizard. No calls, no messages. Nothing. We all assumed he was doing what he needed to do. And that he’d call us when he was done.

But I’d left two voicemails and received no response. The phone just rang and

rang.

The mate bond was gone. It wasn’t faint. It wasn’t weak. It was gone. Like someone had reached into my chest and snipped it with a pair scissors.

I told myself there were explanations. Maybe it was a side effect of the ritual. Maybe distance was a factor. Ashwood Forest was three hours awa. Maybe magical procedures could interfere with the connection.

On the morning of the fourth day, Madison came to my study.

“Have you heard from the wizard?” she asked. She perched on the edge of my desk, one leg swinging. She was wearing white today and her dark hair was pulled back into a ponytail, exposing the long line of her neck.

“No,” I told her.

“That’s annoying.” She examined her nails. “When will the power be ready? This is taking longer than I thought it would. Maybe you should call the wizard?”

“I already have,” I told her.

She looked up, surprised by the edge in my voice.

Mercy slid off the desk and kissed my cheek. Her lips were warm. She smelled like jasmine. “Maybe you should go and see for yourself what’s taking so long.”

She left. I sat behind my desk and stared at the phone.

At noon, Anna and Brick appeared at my office together.

Anna was anxious. She wanted to know about the timeline.

When would Madison’s wolf be awakened? They needed to start planning the ceremony. It was only summer, sure, but these types of ceremonies took a long time. And fall would be here before we knew it.

I made the decision at two o’clock. “I’m going to the cottage,” I told Madison.

The ride through the Ashwood forest was tense. It was strange that I hadn’t heard from the wizard. His last phone call kept spinning around in my head.

I arrived at the cottage and walked up the stone path. The front room was empty.

“Mustor?” I called out through the house.

I heard footsteps from the back of the cottage. Then the wizard appeared in the hallway. The sight of him stopped me mid-stride. He was haggard. He had dark circles under his pale eyes. His thin frame looked thinner.

“Alpha Silas,” he said. His voice was hoarse, raw. “I tried to tell you. I’ve done everything I can.”

“Tell me what? What happened? Where’s Bella?”

He didn’t answer. He only stepped aside. Then he gestured toward the ritual room with a slight, defeated motion. I pushed past him.

And in the center, on the metal table, was Bella.

She was still. Perfectly, absolutely still. Her body lay flat on the table. Her wrists and ankles were still secured by leather restraints. Her eyes were closed. Her face was pale. Ghastly pale.

Her dark hair fanned out around her head like a halo on the cold metal surface.

She looked like she was sleeping. Except that sleeping people breathe. Bella wasn’t breathing.

I spun to face the wizard.

“What happened?” I demanded.

“She slipped into a coma. Then she died. I was able to hold her for a few days, in a place between death and life. But the magic…I couldn’t save her. The magic bond broke this morning. I think she’s crossed over now.”

My heart raced. “Crossed over? To where?” I asked.

“To the place after here,” he said.

“Do you mean…” My voice trailed off.

“Yes. Bella is dead.”

I went to her body. I touched her hand. It was cold. My mind reeled.

“I tried to tell you on the phone, Alpha,” Mustor said behind me. “I did everything within my power. But the extraction was too violent. Her wolf fought it with extraordinary force. Her wolf is…was…very, very strong. The strain was too much for Bella’s body. Like I said, I managed to hold her for a while. But I could not revive her. She…”

“Extraction?” I cut him off. I turned to face him. “What do you mean, extraction?”

Mustor blinked. Then a crease formed between his pale eyebrows.

“The extraction,” he said. “The full extraction of her wolf, as specified in the contract.”

“The contract is for a Rebirth Ritual,” I said. I didn’t understand what he was saying.

“No.” Mustor crossed to the small table by the wall and retrieved the contract. He walked it over to me and held it open. His long finger pointing to a specific clause two-thirds of the way down the page. “Right here. See? Extraction.”

I read it.

“Madison was very clear in her instructions,” Mustor said quietly. “I was to extract the wolf entirely.” He paused. “I assumed you were aware of the terms.”

I looked at the contract. At the clause. At the signature at the bottom. Bella’s handwriting, shaky but legible. She’d signed this. She’d signed it without understanding what it really said.

“This wasn’t supposed to be an extraction,” I said, my voice low.

“Bella said the same thing,” Mustor told me. “But a signed contract is a signed contract.”

I looked at Bella on the table. At her cold hand. At her lifeless chest.

My wolf rose inside me. Grief and rage tore through me. Baxter howled. He flashed across my face.

Madison.

This was all Madison’s fault. She’d orchestrated this. Bella wasn’t supposed to die! She was just supposed to…to help Madison’s wolf.

I turned to storm out of the room.

“Wait,” Mustor said. “The body. What should I do with the body?”

I paused.

I couldn’t bear the sight of Bella’s dead body.

“Perform a death ritual,” I said, my voice low. “Somewhere in the forest. Send her back to the Earth. Make sure she’s crossed over to the other side peacefully.”

“I can do that,” Mustor said. “But it costs…”

“I don’t care how much it costs. Make it happen. She deserves…” My voice cracked. I inhaled a deep breath. “She deserves a proper death ritual.”

Then I stormed out of the cottage without another word and made my way back to the pack. My blood was boiling. Baxter’s fury flooded through my veins.

I had to confront Madison.

I needed to know exactly what she’d done.
