My Mafia Husband Smelled Like His Secretary, Who Turned Out To Be My Half-Sister Chapter 05

When they drew up the draft agreement, Jacob left me with one sentence.

“You’ve got one month to change your mind. After that, the Donna title is gone. For good.”

Jacob didn’t come back to the estate after that.

I knew he was staying at a hotel. He sent his assistant to pick up his clothes once.

The assistant looked at me like he wanted to say something.

I knew what he was thinking. I’d always handled everything for Jacob. His food, his clothes, his schedule. The assistant just had to worry about shipping routes and arms deals.

But things were different now. His workload had doubled.

I handed him Jacob’s suitcase and said one thing. “Anna’s birthday is the day after tomorrow. Remind him to show up.”

I just didn’t expect him to bring Sophia.

She stood next to him in a blue gown with diamonds that matched his navy suit.

He took her hand naturally and introduced her to the wealthy guests and family elders. “This is Sophia.”

Anna ran up in her dress and threw her arms around Jacob.

The picture was warm. Perfect. Like they were the real couple.

The whispers started.

“See? The Don might actually divorce her.”

“Look at that secretary. She’s dressed better than the Donna. And here I thought the Don and Donna were in love…”

Anna grabbed Sophia’s hand and came up to me, beaming.

“Mom, Sophia said she brought me a present. Can I go see it?”

I nodded. Anna cheered.

Jacob swirled his champagne. His voice was cold. “Take care of Anna.”

I smiled bitterly and went to find her.

But they’d vanished.

I was still searching when I heard a woman scream.

Then crying.

I ran. A man had Sophia by the wrist.

“There you are. Your dad skipped on his debts and you’re at a party? I’m going to make you pay!”

Sophia screamed and broke free. Anna was right there. Too close.

When the man’s eyes went wild and he lunged at my daughter—

My blood stopped.

I looked for Jacob.

He was across the room, his arm around Sophia’s waist. Staring at me with confusion.

Time slowed down.

I saw it in his eyes in an instant—he thought I’d done something to Sophia.

I knew right then. He wasn’t going to save my Anna.

I grabbed the blade with my bare hand. I didn’t feel the pain.

I just spun around to make sure Anna was okay.

She was screaming. Jacob finally came running.

The pain in my hand was searing. I let go.

At the Kavac family hospital, the doctor stitched me up.

Jacob stood in the doorway for a long time. Silent.

Sophia came in with red eyes to apologize.

“Donna, I’m so sorry. I don’t even know that man. I was just so scared—”

Slap.

I put every ounce of strength I had into it.

Jacob finally snapped out of it. He shoved Sophia behind him.

“Polly! You didn’t watch Anna yourself, and now you’re blaming Sophia?”

I met his glare without flinching.

“Jacob, I don’t care how much you love this woman. Keep my daughter out of it. She’s innocent.”

Something in my eyes must have cut him. His mouth opened.

Nothing came out.
