My Mafia Husband Smelled Like His Secretary, Who Turned Out To Be My Half-Sister Chapter 04

Jacob’s voice was low. Serious. “What do I have to do to make you stay?”

Sophia’s voice cracked. “You already have a Donna. You can’t give me the love I need. So let’s just end this.”

She sounded so wounded. Jacob sighed and pulled her into his arms.

My hand tightened on the doorknob. I was about to leave.

Then his voice came again. “What if I divorce her?”

My heart dropped into an abyss. Falling. Falling.

When I came to, I was already in my car. My hands shook on the wheel. Tears fell whether I wanted them to or not.

I laughed and cried at the same time like some kind of crazy person—

Jacob wanted a divorce. And the first thing I thought was run.

He didn’t come home that night.

I watched the sky turn light and decided I needed to ask him to my face. Was he really going to divorce me? I had to make sure Anna would be okay.

Two nights without sleep. I threw on some makeup and drove to headquarters again.

The private elevator took me straight to the top floor.

Jacob was meeting with an arms supplier. I sat in his office and watched Sophia walk toward me.

She handed me a coffee. Polite. Respectful.

When she bent down, I caught it—the cedar and cigarette smell.

Anna was right. It was Jacob’s scent.

“Don’t you have something to say to me?” I asked.

She jumped like I’d scared her. Hot coffee splashed on her hand. Her eyes looked so fragile. So helpless.

She crouched down in a panic to wipe the carpet.

But she didn’t answer my question.

A hand reached down and pulled her up.

Jacob’s voice vibrated with anger. “Polly, you barge in here first thing in the morning just to throw your weight around? She’s my secretary. You don’t get to boss her around.”

Sophia jumped in like she was defending me. “Don, Polly didn’t mean—”

I laughed.

Maybe Jacob forgot. Before I married into the Kavac family, I wasn’t some meek little wife.

“Polly? I don’t remember the Kavac family rules allowing a secretary to address the Donna by her first name.”

“I—” Sophia’s eyes turned red. “I just wanted to be close to you. I thought you and the Don were both approachable.”

I didn’t blink. “Who do you think you are to act all familiar with me? And since when does the Don of Kotor’s underworld play your personal chauffeur?”

Jacob shoved her behind him. His voice went so cold it shook me.

“Apologize.”

The men and the arms dealer who’d been whispering outside the door went dead silent.

I steadied my breath. “Jacob, I’m not apologizing to her.”

“You’re defying me? Apologize.” His rage crawled up my spine like a snake.

The Don of Kotor’s underworld didn’t change his mind once it was made up.

I should’ve realized it sooner. Leaving him wasn’t an option. It was a necessity.

I smiled calmly. And told him the decision I’d been turning over for a long time. “Jacob, let’s get a divorce.”

His face flickered with surprise. Then twisted into a sneer. “You’re threatening me with divorce? Polly, I warned you. I hate being threatened.”

I nodded. My voice shook but I said it again. “I want a divorce.”

The silence stretched. Then a cold laugh came from above me. “Fine. I’ll call the family lawyers right now.”

Jacob dropped everything. He met with me and the Kavac family lawyers for hours.
