The moment the words left his mouth. 

Boom. 

Giuseppe felt as if something had completely exploded 

in his head. 

The sounds and colors of the world vanished in an instant, leaving only an endless hum and darkness. 

Marco shot the nurse a cold glance and said sarcastically, “Quack.” 

With that, he picked me up right there. 

He lowered his head, his lips almost touching my temple, his voice both mesmerizing and gentle.

Mrs. Romano fainted the very night she heard the 

news, and from then on she never fully recovered, 

remaining bedridden. It was said that her mental state fluctuated; on the rare occasions when she was lucid, 

she would simply gaze out the window and weep. 

She kept repeating “Antonella” and “I’m sorry.” 

Not a single member of the Romano family noticed that 

my “body” had been taken somewhere else. 

What was buried beneath the tombstone was nothing 

more than an empty coffin. 

They said they felt guilty toward me, yet they didn’t 

even notice this small detail–they didn’t even have 

the courage to watch my funeral. 

Love that came too late wasn’t love. 

Marco arranged a fake funeral for me and strictly 

forbade anyone from the Romano family from coming 

near. From this day on, Antonella Romano was dead. 

That afternoon, an envelope that hadn’t been sealed 

properly was delivered to the door of the Romano family villa, addressed specifically to Giuseppe. 

That was the truth Marco had promised to get to the 

bottom of for me. 

Don had been in a coma for years and was unlikely to 

ever wake up. However, Marco discovered the safe 

deposit box Don had rented at the bank. 

The bank manager said he would only unlock the safe if someone could provide the password that met Don’s 

expectations. Many members of the Romano family 

had come by, but none of them could provide that 

password. 

Until, for some strange reason, Marco submitted both 

my birthday and my name. 

The bank manager finally agreed to take the item out of 

the safe. It was a diary. 

It contained all the truths. 

“I’ve discovered that Giuseppe has fallen in love with 

his stepsister. How could this be? Even though they 

aren’t biologically related, I won’t tolerate an incest 

scandal in the Romano family. I have to find a way to 

break them up.” 

“Someone suggested drugging Giuseppe, since he used
