My Mafia Brother’s Abandoned Little Moon Chapter 02

My Mafia Brother’s Abandoned Little Moon Chapter 02

Only then did Marco notice that I was covered in a cold sweat and could barely stand.

His expression changed instantly, and he picked me up and carried me out.

In the center of the banquet hall, Giuseppe, who had been raising his glass and chatting with someone, turned around as if struck by a sudden thought. He saw Marco hurrying away with me in his arms. His hand holding the wine glass froze mid-air. He only snapped back to reality when a waiter walked by and accidentally knocked his glass over.

Carmela followed his gaze.

“Wow, she’s a born slut. They’re still at the party, and she can’t wait to go to the car to satisfy her desires?”

“Giuseppe Bro, back when she was trying to seduce you…”

Bang!

There was a sudden, sharp crack of shattering glass.

Giuseppe smashed the wine glass. Carmela looked at the shards scattered across the floor and was too frightened to say another word.

In the parking lot, Marco hurriedly opened the car door, helped me into the passenger seat, and rummaged through my bag for the medication I always kept there. He took out the last two pills and fed them to me himself.

I swallowed the pill, and after waiting for about fifteen minutes, my complexion gradually began to turn better.

Marco’s expression, on the other hand, turned grim, and he asked me impatiently:

“What exactly is wrong with your stomach?”

“It’s been a year, and you’re still not better. I’m taking you to the hospital tomorrow for a full checkup.”

I didn’t respond; my pupils dilated slightly.

I had agreed to become Marco’s mistress back then because I wanted to use his money and influence to uncover the truth about what had happened all those years ago.

I wanted to tell Giuseppe in person that I was not a traitor to the Romano family, and that I had not betrayed Don’s words.

But that day, looking into Giuseppe’s cold eyes and listening to the insults from Carmela and the others, it seemed like nothing else mattered anymore.

It felt as if a huge hole had been torn in my chest. Cold wind poured into my body, yet it could never fill the hollow inside me.

I looked up again at Marco.

“Mr. Ferraro, I don’t want to be your mistress anymore.”

“Please let me go.”

Marco stared intently at me for a few seconds, then suddenly let out a derisive chuckle.

He gently stroked my cheek with his hand.

“What’s wrong? Those people embarrassed you? Okay, I know it must have been a little embarrassing for you to hear that.”

“I promise you, from now on, if you don’t want to go to occasions like this, I won’t take you. If you want money, I’ll give you another five million. How about that?”

I dodged his outstretched hand and stood my ground.

“I’m sorry, Marco, but if your promise still stands, please let me go.”

I had been accused of betraying Don, who was left in a vegetative state in the hospital and might never wake up. I was forced to leave the Romano household penniless and had no choice but to take odd jobs at places like bars and convenience stores.

But someone leaked the information about where I was working, and a group of gang members cornered me in an alley.

I was almost raped. That was when Marco saved me.

Marco carried me to his car and asked if I wanted to be his mistress. I punched him. He burst out laughing and said that if I agreed to be his mistress, I’d get a lot of money and the freedom to come and go as I pleased.

I didn’t know if Marco still intended to keep his promise. He drove angrily, going very fast.

Suddenly, he asked me, “If I don’t let you go, what are you going to do about it? Beat me up again?”

I laughed. “That’s just how the mafia is—even if they don’t keep their promises, they always have their own reasons.”

Marco didn’t say another word. I thought he was taking me home, but soon I realized we were heading in the wrong direction. Confused, I asked, “Where are we going?”

Marco snorted, his voice as hard as stone.

“The hospital.”

“Of course you can go. After all, I did wrong today too. But you need to go to the hospital first and get your stomach checked out. Damn it, why hasn’t your stomach problem cleared up after a whole year?”

I gave a soft chuckle. “Marco, thank you.”

The tension in the car eased. I saw Marco relax his brow and let a faint smile cross his face.

Then I said, “But never mind.”

“Because that’s not a stomach problem—it’s a heart problem.”

The sound of screeching brakes filled the air. Marco slammed on the brakes. He looked at me in disbelief.

“What did you say?”

“You have a heart condition—why didn’t you tell me sooner? Doesn’t that mean we should get to the hospital even faster? Wait, I’ll go call my personal doctor.”

“It’s a very rare heart condition,” I said. “The medicine I take every day isn’t for my stomach; it’s the specific treatment for this condition. I already asked the doctor, and patients with this condition have an average life expectancy of three years.”

“This is my third year. Just to be alive today is a blessing.”

Marco grabbed me suddenly, his eyes wide. “The third year? You… are you going to die?”

He wore a sorrowful expression—one that perhaps no one but his childhood butler had ever seen before.

“No… Antonella, why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

I kept smiling. With every beat of my heart, I won another second from the grip of death. Now, I would use my final moments to make one last deal.

“Marco, I want to be your lover for the rest of my life.”

“Could you… help me uncover the truth behind the leak of the Romano family’s secrets all those years ago?”
