My Husband’s Heir Cost Him His Own Daughter Chapter 39

“Ha…”

A laugh escaped Carter’s lips.

It was a horrible, grating sound, like something being torn from a man who had already been ripped open.

He deserved this.

He truly, deeply deserved this.

“Carter, listen to me! You heard wrong. The child is yours!” Savannah, summoning a last scrap of courage, tried to get out of bed to touch him, but he flung her arm away.

“Don’t touch me. You liar.”

Carter stared at her.

“I’ll ask you one last time. Is that child mine?”

His voice was quiet, but it sent a chill down Savannah’s spine.

“Don’t make me wait for the paternity test. Because by then, nothing you say will matter.”

“Carter!”

The phrase “paternity test” shattered Savannah’s last defense.

She collapsed, sobbing uncontrollably.

“It was an accident! That day, I called you, I wanted you to come over, but you refused… I was angry, so I went to a bar and drank too much. When I woke up… I… It was an accident! I didn’t even know the man’s name! I swear I never saw him again!”

Her words were a jumbled mess. She even tried to convince him to accept it.

“Believe me, Carter! Even if he’s not your biological son, he can still call you Dad. He can still take care of you when you’re old. You haven’t really lost anything, have you?”

“Shut up!”

Carter was shaking with rage. He raised his hand and slapped her, hard, across the face.

The sound echoed in the silent room.
