My Husband’s Ghost Lover Chapter 07

My Husband’s Ghost Lover Chapter 07

I asked a friend to find me a reliable medium.

He lived in an unassuming small cottage on the outskirts of the city, where various herbs I couldn’t identify were drying in the sun.

As soon as he saw me, his brow furrowed. “You’ve got death clinging to you. You’ve been spending time with something that doesn’t belong to the living world for a long while now.”

My chest tightened.

“But it’s strange,” he said, circling me once. “You don’t seem to be affected much yourself.”

I told him everything that had happened over the past year, down to the last detail.

After listening, he fell silent for a long time.

“That woman’s presence isn’t a bad thing for you–quite the opposite, actually.”

“She is helping you break free from a toxic marriage. You and that man were never meant to be.”

Ever since I first saw Makayla, I had become surprisingly accepting of the supernatural.

But hearing it laid out like this still felt like a miracle.

“So, when will I finally be free of them for good?”

“On the day you can no longer see Makayla at all.

“The fact that she is growing more transparent to you is a good sign. You were never meant to see her, you only could because your love for your husband was so pure. Now that she is fading, it means your feelings for him are disappearing, too.

“Whether ghost or human, all beings feed on emotion to sustain themselves.”

The medium paused, lost in thought. “As for your husband…

“No one can save him unless he recognizes the problem himself.”

“This is his choice, his cross to bear. You can’t interfere, and you

shouldn’t.”

After I left the cottage, the sun came out.

I looked up at the sky and suddenly thought the clouds looked especially beautiful that day.

From that day on, I treated Alonzo like he was invisible, and I stopped bringing up the divorce entirely.

Alonzo, thinking I had finally caved, seemed quite pleased with himself.

Several times, he reached out to ruffle my hair the way he used to, but I dodged his touch every single time.

I could tell that Makayla was fading; I could barely see her anymore.

The only proof of her existence was the occasional pair of venomous eyes glaring at me from the shadows.

Alonzo had grown so weak that he had to stop and rest several times just to climb a single flight of stairs.

He finally began to sense that something was wrong, but he brushed it off, blaming it on his recent insomnia.

“Kayla, let’s turn in early tonight. I’m absolutely exhausted lately.”

Then came Makayla’s tearful, manipulative voice..

“Do you find me annoying now? I know I’m a ghost, and I can’t give you real warmth, but I’ve tried so hard to adapt to a human schedule…”

“That’s not what I meant…”

“Then why are you pushing me away? I just want to spend more time with you. I’ve been dead for so long, and you’re the only one who can see me, the only one who can touch me. If even you don’t want me, what’s the point of me existing?”

In the end. Alonzo always gave in.

Then, one day, he collapsed at work without warning.

When he woke up in the hospital, he was told that several of his organs were failing and that he likely didn’t have much time left.

He immediately spiraled, smashing things in his hospital room and appearing to talk to the empty air beside him.

The nurses were terrified and called for a psychiatrist.

I was on annual leave at the time.

The air out in Sedona was incredibly fresh.

Alonzo’s condition continued to deteriorate. He suddenly became as clingy as he had been when we first started dating.

“Jazlyn, my chest hurts. Please come see me.

“Jazlyn, the hospital food is terrible. Bring me something to eat.

“Jazlyn, why haven’t you come by today? I’ve been waiting for you all morning.”
