My Husband Wished for My Love, Then Got Bored in Year Seven Chapter 03

“Turn that off. It’s annoying.”

With that, he ignored me completely and kept reassuring his “coworker” on the line.

Staring at the disconnected call, my mind spun. Rage shook my entire body.

I dialed Joseph again, but no one picked up.

“Thomas, who do you think you—”

He slammed on the brakes without warning. The sudden stop threw me forward against the dashboard. Pain exploded in my face, and hot tears spilled over my cheeks.

“It hurts…”

As soon as the car stopped, bodyguards pulled the door open and dragged me out.

“What is this?” I stared at Thomas in disbelief.

“They’re here to watch over you. The doctor warned your emotions are unstable. This is for your own safety. Rest and recover, and I’ll come get you in a week.”

A burning anger rose inside me. “What are you afraid of? If you aren’t cheating, why hide everything? Don’t you dare tell me this trip is for work.”

“Every single accusation you’ve thrown at me is a lie. I haven’t done anything wrong.”

It disgusted me.

In his mind, anything short of kissing or sleeping together wasn’t betrayal.

I forced my anger under control and wiped my tears away. My voice stayed level and calm. “Fine. I believe you. I won’t stop you from traveling for work, and I won’t be paranoid anymore. Send them away.”

“If you truly trust me and aren’t going to keep suspecting me like before, prove it over this week.”

“I swear. Just send them away!”

There was no screaming, no hysterics, only a quiet, steady stare.

He must have realized I really had changed. His tone softened slightly.

“They still need to keep an eye on you. I can’t leave you alone and risk something happening while I’m gone. And I never fully made up my mind about the divorce. If you manage to let go of your jealousy and paranoia, we could make this marriage work again.”

So even if I changed, the best I could hope for was a mediocre, bearable existence.

I let out a cold laugh. It hurt to think I had wasted seven years trapped by a wish.

“I promise I’ll—”

“Lucille, be reasonable!”

He gestured to the bodyguards and hurried off.

I screamed and shouted after him, but he never turned around.

Later, while the guards kept me confined to a hospital room, his call came.

“I knew she couldn’t keep that act up for long.”

“Watch her closely. If she gets out and ruins our trip, you’ll deal with me.”

I glanced up at the iron bars bolted across the window and sneered. “I’m not his wife. I’m his prisoner.”

The bodyguard’s face remained blank. “This is for your good. You heard him. We can’t afford to let you escape.”

The door clicked shut.

I screamed until my throat went raw and pounded on the door until my knuckles were raw and bruised.

Nobody listened.

Twenty minutes later, a doctor walked in for rounds. I smashed the bathroom mirror with a metal cup, grabbed a jagged shard, and faced the guards closing in on me.

“Stay back! I swear to God, there’s nothing I won’t do”

Only one hour remained.

Joseph still wasn’t answering my calls or texts. I couldn’t afford to wait, but the guards charged toward me without hesitation.

A sudden sharp sting pierced my neck. My legs buckled, and I crashed to the floor.

“Mr. Grant said we can sedate you if we have to.”

No. I couldn’t pass out.

I grabbed onto the guard’s collar with my last strength, then darkness swallowed me whole.

When I came to, forty minutes had passed. Joseph’s flight would take off in twenty minutes.

I threw off the covers and swung my legs over the bed. My head spun violently the second my feet touched the floor, and I crumpled to the ground.

“Lucille.”

I lifted my face, cold sweat dripping down my skin.

Angela stood a short distance away, watching me with a quiet smile.

“I know you don’t remember those seven years of marriage to Thomas. I can get you out of here. But you have to swear one thing—never come back.”

I caught a flash of pure malice in her eyes.

When she arranged for a car to take me away, I stayed cautious and slipped a mirror shard into my pocket.

When the driver tried to turn down a secluded side road halfway there, I gathered every ounce of strength and pressed the shard against his neck.

I jumped out of the speeding car and ran to the main road, hailing a taxi.

“The airport, hurry!”

The driver studied me for a second before slamming on the gas and speeding forward.
