My Husband Wished for My Love, Then Got Bored in Year Seven Chapter 01

It had been seven years since Thomas Grant had stood before the One Wish Willow and made his wish—that I would fall hopelessly, irrevocably in love with him.

And now, he was asking for a divorce.

He had grown tired of the way my entire world revolved around him, how I never left his side, watching his every move, every single day.

Worse still, he was fed up with the scene I had caused at his office, all because he’d kept a pair of his coworker Angela’s stockings and driven her home once. I’d lost it—ripped at her clothes in front of everyone and pushed her so far over the edge that she tried to take her own life and ended up in the hospital.

“I love you!” A wild, desperate laugh burst from me when I saw the hatred burning in his eyes. “Let’s jump off a building together, okay? Then we can be together forever!”

He shoved me away and walked out without a single backward glance.

Downstairs, Angela sat in a car, clutching a branch from the One Wish Willow.

Her fingers brushed gently over the corner of his bruised mouth, her gaze soft with pity.

“Don’t be so upset. Today’s my birthday, and I’ll let you make one wish for me.”

Weariness was etched into every line of his face. He gave a bitter, hollow chuckle and muttered under his breath.

“If wishes really came true… I just want Lucille to stop loving me.”

I threw myself from the third-floor balcony. When I came to, every memory I had of him was gone.

My best friend Nadia held up a photograph of us together and told me we had been married for years, that I had loved him fiercely.

I let out a short, mocking laugh.

“That can’t be right. The man I love is Joseph. We’re getting married next month!”

“I’m not lying to you.”

“Thomas booked a flight for a business trip the day after tomorrow. You suspected he was sneaking off on a vacation with Angela, and that’s how the fight started.”

“He finally reached his breaking point with your constant paranoia, so he filed for divorce. You were overwhelmed and acted on impulse—that’s why you jumped.”

I refused to believe I would ever leave Joseph, my childhood friend who’d always been there for me, to marry a man who treated me this badly.

I laughed it off, sure she was making the whole thing up just to mess with me.

Nadia sighed heavily. “He’s right next door with Angela, who’s still shaken up. Go see for yourself if you don’t believe me.”

She pushed me toward the door of the neighboring hospital room.

Through the narrow crack, I spotted the man from the photograph. He sat beside the hospital bed, chatting and laughing with Angela.

“They only had one tent left in stock. The store said they couldn’t get more delivered in time, and we leave the day after tomorrow.”

“It’s fine. You can share some of your space with me. We’ll fit.”

“Did you pack toiletries?”

“I even picked up your sanitary pads and those vitamin tablets you take for cramps.”

Angela smiled, then suddenly bit down hard on her lower lip. “Lucille…”

At the sound of my name, all that was left in Thomas’s eyes was exhaustion and irritation.

“I already talked to the doctor. Her injuries aren’t serious enough to need me hovering over her 24/7.”

“I promised you a birthday trip, and I keep my word. I’ll hire someone to check in on Lucille. We’ll deal with everything else once we get back.”

I glanced up at the large digital clock on the hospital wall.

The date confirmed it—seven years had passed, just as Nadia had said. She hadn’t made anything up.

This man was my husband. And “the old me” hadn’t been imagining things. He was using a work trip as an excuse to go away with another woman.

Separated only by a thin wall, his own wife had just tried to end her life by jumping. Not once had he come to check on me, not once had he stayed by my side. He hadn’t even bothered to visit.

How could I have ever loved someone this worthless?

“We all think Thomas’s wish came true.”

On the eve of my wedding to Joseph, Thomas had made a wish at the One Wish Willow.

He swore he would pay any price if only I would fall madly in love with him.

The very next day, he lost the use of one leg in an accident—and his wish was granted.

I called off my wedding in a blind panic and rushed to the city hall to marry him. After that, I could barely recall who Joseph was.

Seven years later, Thomas had grown bored.

He was the one who begged for my love all those years ago, and now he tossed me aside like trash.

The whole thing struck me as ridiculous.

Since I could no longer remember our past, and he had stopped loving me long ago, there was no point in holding onto this marriage.

I returned to my hospital room and grabbed my phone.

I had just pulled up Joseph’s contact when Thomas walked in.

“The doctor said you shouldn’t eat anything heavy. Have some fruit—I peeled these for you.”

The container in his hand looked hauntingly familiar. It was the leftover portion Angela had left on her bedside table earlier.

When I stayed silent, his lips twisted into a cold smile. He tossed my phone onto the bed in front of me.

“Here’s your phone. Check the location logs if you want. The tracker only shows stops to buy your fruit. I didn’t go anywhere else.”

“Or are you looking for another fight? Fine. Your arm’s broken, but I’ll smash things for you instead.”

He wrecked the entire hospital room, his rage spilling out for me to witness on purpose.

Amid the splintered furniture and scattered debris, he lifted his face, completely emotionless. “Happy now?”

“If you are, get some rest. I still have work. I don’t have time to keep you company.”

Once the door clicked shut, I held Nadia back before she could storm after him.

“I’m going to find Joseph.”

I had seen his text message half an hour earlier.

[Lucille, I’m leaving the country. My flight takes off in three hours. Come to the airport if you’ve changed your mind.]

[If you don’t show up… I won’t wait for you any longer.]

I didn’t care what Thomas did or how he felt. All I wanted was to get back to the person who truly loved me.

Using the address saved on my phone, I headed back to the house Thomas and I shared.

On the living-room table lay the divorce papers, spread out on the table.

I signed my name, grabbed my driver’s license from the bedroom, stuffed a few things into a bag, and headed for the door.

Just then, the front door swung open.
