My Husband Wanted a Divorce. The Comments Told Me Why Chapter 11

At the lab, I transplanted the flower into a pot and added a few drops of my special nutrient serum.

The formula was extremely delicate. Even a little too much or too little could affect the flower’s growth.

Julian extracted the active compounds from the fallen petals while I kept studying the Thornvine.

I was distracted today, probably because my mind was elsewhere. I wasn’t paying attention and pricked my finger on a Thornvine thorn.

I yelped in pain.

Julian hurried over, concerned. “What happened?”

A drop of pale blue blood welled up on my fingertip. I sucked in a breath. “I got pricked by the Thornvine.”

“What?” Julian examined the blood on my finger. “How do you feel?”

Right after the prick, I felt a little dizzy. Now my mouth was dry, but I didn’t feel anything else strange.

“A little warm.” I sat down and poured myself a glass of water. The more I drank, the thirstier I became.

Julian started taking notes on my symptoms.

The effects were getting stronger. My face was flushed. I felt embarrassed.

We both thought of the compound Julian had extracted from the flower. We’d been trying to develop an antidote. This could be a good test.

But any test had risks. The compound hadn’t been analyzed for safety yet. We should only try it as a last resort.

Julian worked overnight to analyze the compound. I went back to the bungalow. We agreed that he would call me once the analysis was done, and I could go to the lab for the injection.

By the time I got in the shower, I could barely stand up straight. The woman in the mirror had a deep flush on her face.

I felt terrible.

My vision blurred. It was like I could see a reflection of that night in the bathroom with Hunter.

[This is karma for the ice queen.]

[Who was the one constantly turning Hunter down before?]

[Missing him now?]

[Summer went to him tonight.]

[He has multiple properties. They’re probably at the Dunecrest Villa in Silver Bay right now, letting loose.]

[Let the ice queen suffer. Isn’t she supposed to be cold?]

[Let’s see her control the Thornvine effects if she’s so tough.]

I tried to fight it. But lying in bed, all I could think about were the times I’d been intimate with Hunter.

I used to think he had too much energy and never got tired. Now I just regretted not appreciating it. If he were here with me now, I wouldn’t refuse him.

The comments said Hunter was at that villa I’d never been to?

I didn’t want to believe it. We weren’t even officially divorced yet. He couldn’t be that desperate.

I had to know for sure.

I called Hunter.

It rang for what felt like forever before he answered. He didn’t say anything, but I could hear him breathing.

It sounded hot, like his mouth was right next to my ear. I could hear water running in the background.

“Where are you?” I asked.

Hunter’s voice was low and rough. “Dunecrest Villa on Coast Road. You’ve never been here.”
