In my memory, Hunter had always been gentle and easygoing. He had never been this serious with me before. The stubborn look in his eyes was more intense than ever.

[He’s finally putting his foot down.]

I felt a strange mix of sadness and resignation. I was cold by nature. I needed a partner who wasn’t clingy.

I picked up a pen, signed the divorce papers, and handed them to him. “Since you want this, fine.”

Hunter froze. His knuckles turned white as he gripped the paper.

I opened the office door and walked away quickly.

Behind me, Hunter’s gaze grew darker.

In the elevator, the comments were flying.

[Wow. She finally signed them.]

[One month and it’s official.]

Summer had the succubus condition. Something clicked in my mind. I wanted to go back and ask for her contact info.

Right before the elevator doors closed, I stepped out and went back to the office floor. To get to the executive office, I had to pass by the secretarial area.

I hadn’t even gotten close when I heard Summer’s voice. It was sweet and seductive. “Can I come to your place tonight?”

I held my breath, waiting for Hunter’s answer. Instead, I heard a soft sound from Summer, like a stifled gasp.

It sounded like she was being kissed.

I stopped walking.

[Hunter is kissing Summer. Things are moving at lightning speed.]

[Love it. Can’t get enough.]

[Why isn’t Stella going any further?]

[Is she afraid of seeing what she doesn’t want to see?]

[She’s the one who threw him away first. If Hunter ends up with Summer, she has nobody to blame but herself.]

Hunter had always been respectful of me. Even when he really wanted to kiss me, he would test the waters with a light kiss first. Then he’d ask, “Is this okay?”

I would nod, and only then would he deepen the kiss.

Now, with Summer, he finally didn’t have to hold back. I wanted to take one more step and see for myself.

But something inside me ached.

Seeing it with my own eyes would only make the hurt worse. Letting emotions get in the way would only affect my work later.

I turned around, walked quickly back to the executive elevator, and left without looking back.
