My Husband Tried to Give His Fortune to His Secret Son, But He Forgot Our Prenup Chapter 04

My Husband Tried to Give His Fortune to His Secret Son, But He Forgot Our Prenup Chapter 04

Something unexpected happened on our third wedding anniversary.

I was waiting at home for Skyler to come back for dinner when a violent storm suddenly broke outside. The

entire estate lost power.

I braced myself against the wall and tried to stand, but my foot slipped. I fell hard onto the floor, and a sharp

pain tore through my abdomen.

Lying on the cold floor, I found my phone and called Skyler. It rang for a long time before he finally answered.

“Skyler, I fell.”

“Vivian, not now. I’m dealing with something here. Have the housekeeper take you to the hospital.” His voice

was low and impatient.

“It hurts so much.”

“Can you please not make things harder when I’m busy?” With that, he hung up.

In the end, the housekeeper found me and rushed me to the hospital in the middle of the night.

When I woke up, the sharp smell of disinfectant filled the room. The doctor stood beside my bed and spoke

calmly.

“Don’t worry. The baby is fine. But you’ll need strict bed rest from now on. You can’t put your body through

any more stress.”

Skyler didn’t arrive until noon the next day.

He took my hand, his voice hoarse as he quietly apologized. “I’m sorry, Vivian. I was too caught up with work.

I should’ve been there for you.”

His mother came too. Standing at the foot of my bed, she muttered under her breath, “She’s always looked so sickly. Who knows if the baby will even be healthy?”

I ignored her, simply pulled my hand from Skyler’s, and rested it gently over my belly.

After my parents were gone, this was the only family I had left who shared my blood.

A few days later, the private investigator sent me a message saying that Madeline was pregnant too.

Skyler had personally taken her to a clinic in another city for testing and confirmed that she was carrying a

boy.

My mother-in-law packed her bags and immediately moved into Madeline’s home, insisting she wanted to

take care of her herself.

My sister-in-law posted a picture of baby clothes on social media with the caption: [Finally, our family’s

getting the grandson we’ve been waiting for!]

I lay in my hospital bed and saved a screenshot of the post to my evidence folder.

When Madeline began showing, Skyler bought her a luxury downtown condo and moved her in so he could take care of her himself.

After I was discharged, I returned to the Carter family estate alone.

Skyler came home less and less.

At my first prenatal appointment, he said he had a meeting. When I felt the baby move for the first time, he said he was working late. Every time I needed him, he was somewhere else.

Then, in the middle of the night, I went into labor. The housekeeper panicked and reached for his phone to call Skyler, but I stopped him.

“Don’t.”

I signed every form acknowledging the risks to my life.

The nurse looked at me, clearly wanting to say something, but in the end, everything went smoothly.

When I woke again, there was a tiny, wrinkled little life in my arms. A baby girl. I looked at her, my eyes filling

with tears.

Three years after my father’s death, I finally had a new member of my family. I named her Wendy Carter. My girl would carry my family name.

That same day, Madeline went into labor early and gave birth to a boy. Skyler stayed outside the delivery room all night. His mother held the baby, smiling from ear to ear, and named him Lucas Hayes on the spot.

Their social media was flooded with pictures of the three of them. No one remembered that I’d given birth

that day too.

From then on, Madeline compared herself to me in everything.

I booked a private postpartum recovery center. The next day, she booked the exact same facility and posted:

[Thank you, sweetheart, for giving me the very best.]

Lucas went to private schools from kindergarten through middle school, with tuition costing tens of thousands of dollars a year. Wendy attended public schools. I had the family driver take her to and from school every day, rain or shine.

After high school, Lucas went to an Ivy League university. Skyler personally took him there and posed for a photo with him outside the school. Wendy was accepted into one of the country’s top universities.

On move-in day, only I went with her. She dragged her suitcase behind her, then turned around and smiled at

“Mom, I can handle it on my own.”

I nodded, trying hard not to let the tears fall.

Year after year, I kept track of every dollar Skyler spent on Madeline and Lucas.

Lucas’s private high school cost roughly $150,000 a year. Skyler put up $300,000 in financial guarantees for Lucas’s move overseas. The luxury condo he bought for Madeline cost $1.6 million in cash and was placed

in Skyler’s name.

I had every payment investigated and every dollar documented.

My best friend flipped through the ledger, her hands shaking with anger.

“Vivian, your husband took your family’s money to support his mistress and his son, and you’re just going to

sit there and watch?”

I lifted my teacup and took a slow sip.

“Why rush? The higher he climbs, the harder he’ll fall.”
