My Husband Backed His Assistant-Until He Learned She Had Killed His Mother Chapter 05

When Ethan saw my mother standing there perfectly fine, his entire body went rigid. He stared at

her, unable to get a single word out.

The guests around him didn’t notice his reaction.

All they saw was my mother in an old coat, carrying a worn travel bag, and disgust quickly spread

across their faces.

“Who is that?”

“This is a private party. How did security let someone like her in?”

“Look at the way she’s dressed. Don’t tell me she heard there was free food and snuck in.”

“Why does everything keep going wrong at this party today?”

Vanessa hurried over to my mother, her heels clacking across the floor. “Oh my God. And who the

hell are you? Get out. This isn’t a homeless shelter!”

She looked my mother up and down with open disgust.

Mom glanced around the room and spotted me through the crowd.

“Olivia, what’s going on? Why are they talking to me like this?”

I was about to answer when Vanessa suddenly widened her eyes dramatically.

“Wait. You know Olivia?”

She burst out laughing. “Ha! I know who you are now!”

Thinking she’d finally figured it out, she loudly announced her conclusion.

“I knew it. You’re another one of those poor relatives she dragged in from her little town.”

“Olivia, do you have no shame at all?”

“It wasn’t enough that you sent your mother to my restaurant to eat without paying. Now you’re inviting your broke relatives to Margaret’s birthday party for free food too? Do you people think we’re running a charity?”

The guests immediately joined in, mocking my mother.

“So she’s another one of Olivia’s relatives.”

“No wonder she’s dressed like that.”

“These people see a luxury hotel and free food the way sharks smell blood.”

“One of them died this afternoon, and now another one shows up tonight.”

“Ethan, today is your mother’s birthday. You can’t let people like this turn the party into some kind of community handout!”

“Get her out of here!”

My mother listened to them with a frown, then looked around at everyone.

“Have you mistaken me for someone else? I’m not some distant relative of Olivia’s. I’m her

mother.”
