My Husband Backed His Assistant-Until He Learned She Had Killed His Mother Chapter 04

Ethan thought I was refusing to sign.

His expression turned stern. “Olivia, you don’t have the right to refuse!”

Emily lifted her chin so high she was practically looking down her nose at me.

“Olivia! Stop taking advantage of my brother’s kindness! If he hadn’t agreed to handle this, your mother wouldn’t even get a proper funeral.”

“Now someone’s willing to clean up the mess for you. You should be grateful and accept it!”

I should have laughed, but as I looked at Emily, Ethan, and all the cold faces around me, I couldn’t. They looked like monsters.

“You’ve got it wrong,” I explained. “What I’m saying is that the woman who died was your mother.”

“Only the two of you can sign this settlement agreement. My signature would be worthless.”

Emily immediately shrieked.

“Olivia, you’re just as crazy as your mother! Today is my mom’s birthday, and you actually have the nerve to stand here in front of everyone and say she’s dead?!”

By then, Ethan’s face had twisted with rage.

“Olivia! Shut your mouth!”

“My mother is the most important person in the world to me. Even if you’re my wife, you don’t get to insult her!”

Ethan turned to Daniel.

“Go back to the restaurant right now and throw that woman’s body into the garbage compactor in the back alley.”

Daniel looked uneasy.

“Mr. Walker, isn’t that going a little too far?”

Ethan’s voice exploded across the ballroom, loud enough for every guest to hear.

“She just insulted my mother! She cursed my mother and said she was dead!”

“Someone that vicious has to pay for what she did!”

“Go get rid of the body. Now!”

“If anything goes wrong, I’ll take full responsibility.”

Daniel didn’t dare argue again. He turned and hurried out of the ballroom.

One by one, the guests around me shook their heads.

“Olivia’s really gone too far this time.”

“Everyone knows Margaret raised Ethan and Emily all by herself. She’s the woman Ethan loves most.”

“His mother means more to him than anyone.”

“And Olivia chose Margaret’s birthday party to say she was dead! What a vicious thing to say!”

“With a daughter like that, what kind of family could she possibly come from?”

Their voices were harsh and arrogant, but I no longer cared. I simply looked at Ethan.

“Are you sure you want to take this this far?”

Ethan stood in front of me, his expression so cold it was as if he were looking at an enemy.

“You brought all of this on yourself.”

“Your mother died because she went somewhere she didn’t belong and did something she had no right to do!”

“And you shouldn’t have kept cursing my mother and saying she was dead! You destroyed the last shred of your own dignity!”

As soon as Ethan finished speaking, a familiar voice came from the ballroom entrance.

My mother walked in, dragging an old suitcase behind her, and looked at all of us in confusion.

“Who’s dead?”
