My Fiancé Kissed His “Just a Friend” in the Break Room. Oops—I Kissed Their Freedom Goodbye. Chapter 05

Sasha and Ronan both froze.

My dad looked around the entire floor. Took it all in. The desks. The monitors. The employees peeking out from behind their cubicles like scared rabbits.

He said one word.

“Out.”

Every single person jumped up like they’d been electrocuted. Grabbed their phones. Their bags. Their lunches. Ran for the

elevators and stairwells.

Less than thirty seconds later, the whole floor was empty.

Except for the people in the break room.

My mom yelled down the hallway, her voice all sweet and deadly. “Everyone take a paid day off. Back to work tomorrow. Double pay. And don’t forget to clock out!”

Then she walked into the break room behind my dad.

Dad stepped inside. Looked at Sasha. Looked at Ronan. Didn’t say a word at first.

Sasha tried to keep it together, but her voice was shaking.

“What are you doing?” She held her hands up. “This is a civilized society. You can’t just-what do you think you’re doing?”

My dad turned and looked her up and down. Slow. Like she was something stuck to his shoe.

Then he said it. One word at a time.

“In Boston North Shore…” Pause. “I AM THE LAW.”

His voice was ice. No room for argument.

Sasha’s face went white. But she still tried to hold her ground. Stupid,

“Do you… do you even know who I am?” Her voice cracked.

“I graduated from Harvard Business School. Ronan hired me as marketing manager. I have lawyers on retainer. If you lay one hand on me, I’ll call the police. I’ll sue you for everything you’ve got. I’ll-”

My dad was already done looking at her.

He turned and waved toward the door.

Two bodyguards stepped in. Big guys. Suits. No expression on their faces. Each one grabbed one of Sasha’s arms and twisted

them behind her back.

She screamed. Started thrashing. “Let go of me!”

She couldn’t break free. Not even close.

Then my dad nodded at two other bodyguards.

They walked up behind Ronan. Grabbed him by the shoulders. Before he could even open his mouth, their fists were already swinging.

First punch to the gut. Ronan doubled over, gasping.

Second punch to the face. His head snapped back.

Third. Fourth. Fifth.

Ronan grunted and crumpled to the floor. They pulled him back up by his collar and hit him again.

On the other side, Sasha was getting it too. A slap across her face. Then another.

“This is ASSAULT!” she screamed. “I’m calling the police! I’m suing you for battery!”

Another slap landed across her mouth instantly.

Her lip split open. Blood dripped down her chin. Her hair fell out of its perfect ponytail. Strands stuck to the blood on her lips.

Ronan was already curled up on the floor, arms over his head, begging.

“Please stop. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. There’s nothing going on with Sasha. It was just a joke. A stupid joke. Please-”

My dad didn’t say anything. Just cracked his knuckles. One by one. Getting ready to step in himself.

My mom whined dramatically from behind me. “Oh honey, go easy on them. I’don’t want you to hurt your pretty hands.”

Then she wrapped one arm around my shoulder and used her other hand to cover my eyes.

“Baby, don’t watch.” Her voice was soft now. Sweet. “You don’t need to see this garbage.”
