My Fiancé Kissed His “Just a Friend” in the Break Room. Oops—I Kissed Their Freedom Goodbye. Chapter 04

Sasha threw her head back and laughed.

“What, Vera? Jealous?”

She stepped closer. “Ronan’s the marketing director. He’s got the authority to promote me. He didn’t promote you. Is that what’s eating you up?”

I glanced at Ronan. Didn’t say a word. Just turned and walked to my desk.

I pulled out my phone and quickly typed a message to our family group chat. Just a quick heads-up. Nothing dramatic.

A few minutes later, Sasha appeared at my desk.

“Vera.” She dropped a stack of files on my keyboard. “Fifteen hundred old client records. Needs to be sorted and filed by end of day. If you can’t finish, pack your stuff and get out. This company doesn’t carry deadweight.”

I looked up at her. “I’m not doing them.”

She put her hands on her hips. “You’re not doing them? Then why the hell are you here? You think this place belongs to your family or something?”

I didn’t answer. Just kept scrolling on my limited edition tablet. The one with the gold casing. A gift from my mom.

When Sasha saw I was ignoring her, her face went tight. She reached over and ripped the tablet out of my hands.

“No electronics during work hours,” she announced. “You think this is your living room?”

She turned around. Walked to the window. Opened it. And threw my tablet out.

Twenty floors down.

Everyone in the office gasped. Sasha dusted off her hands and turned to face the whole room.

“No phones. No tablets. No personal devices during work hours. Starting now. Let Vera be an example.”

Then she looked back at me, arms crossed. “What? You upset? You won’t work, but you’ll play on your tablet all day?”

“Go ahead. Get mad. I swear to God, I’m gonna tear off that fake low-maintenance act of yours right here in front of everyone. We’re both women. Stop pretending.”

I looked at her with a completely blank face. “You just threw something out a window. That’s illegal.”

Sasha froze for a second.

She clearly expected me to explode. But I didn’t. And that seemed to freak her out even more.

“God, you’re good at pretending,” she muttered. “I throw your tablet out the window and you still won’t get mad. Do you not

have a temper at all? Or are you planning something bigger?”

She leaned in close. Nasty. Smug.

“Fine. Let’s see how much longer you can keep this up.”

I didn’t answer. Just turned back to my computer.

About an hour later, I got thirsty. Grabbed my mug and headed to the break room.

The second I reached the doorway, I stopped.

Sasha had Ronan pinned against the wall. One hand hooked around his neck. And she was kissing him.

Not a peck. A real kiss.

She finally let him go and turned around. Saw me standing there. And she grinned.

Triumphant.

“What happened to being so calm?” she said. “Seeing this must be eating you up inside.”

“Go ahead. Lose it. Let’s see how long your whole ‘above it all’ act can really last.”

But before I could even blink, the break room door flew open behind me.

It was my dad.

Declan DeLeon. With thirty bodyguards in black suits behind him. They all stormed in like a damn army.

And then I heard my mom’s voice from down the hall, shrieking at the top of her lungs.

“Honey! I’m about to lose my damn mind!”

Every single employee at their desks looked up. Saw my mom. And immediately stood up like someone had zapped them.

“Good afternoon, Mrs. DeLeon!”

Then the entire office went completely silent.
