My Fiance Has Been Married For Six Years Behind My Back Chapter 05

Cassian lunged forward and yanked me down from the ledge.

“What did you just say?”

His grip was tight, almost desperate.

I looked straight into his eyes.

“Elowen is dead.”

“Just now. Because you pulled the medication. Because you sent the specialists away.”

“She’s dead.”

The color drained from his face in an instant.

“That’s not possible.” His voice shook. “I only told Delphine to scare you a little. The medication wasn’t

supposed to be fully withdrawn-I was going to restore everything right away-”

“How could I actually hurt Elowen…”

He fumbled for his phone, fingers trembling so badly he nearly dropped it.

“Hello? Where’s the medication? Where are the specialists? Put everything back-now. Immediately!”

Whatever came through on the other end made his expression collapse even further.

“What do you mean they’ve already left?” he snapped. “Get them back. I don’t care what it costs!”

I shook his hand off.

A hollow laugh escaped me-thin, broken, beyond grief.

“Cassian… it’s too late.”

“My sister is dead.”

“She’s gone.”

For a moment, he just stood there.

Then something in his eyes cracked.

He hung up slowly, his gaze locking onto mine, red-rimmed and unsteady.

“Nerissa… I’m sorry. I didn’t know it would turn out like this.”

“Delphine said she just wanted the wedding to go smoothly… didn’t want the media stirring things up.”

“I thought she was bluffing. I thought-”

I didn’t hear the rest.

Below the stage, my mother was still lying on the ground, unconscious.

Guests were shouting, scrambling, chaos swallowing the room whole.

On stage, Delphine stood frozen, her face drained of all color.

Even she hadn’t expected this.

Her fingers clutched at her gown, trembling.

“Cassian… I…”

He turned on her so abruptly it was almost violent.

“What did you do?” His voice dropped, dark and lethal. “I told you this was just for show.”

“Where’s the medication? Where are the specialists?”

“What exactly did you do?”

She flinched under his gaze, stumbling back a step.

“I-I just had someone pause the treatment,” she stammered. “How was I supposed to know she was that fragile?”

“I only wanted Nerissa to give in at the wedding. I never meant for anyone to die…”

Her voice broke, tears spilling fast and messy.

“Cassian, how can you blame me? You agreed to all of this-you agreed to let her be the bridesmaid, you

said I could vent-”

“I’m carrying your child. Is this how you treat me?”

Every word she said twisted deeper into my chest.

Give in?

My sister’s life-reduced to a bargaining chip for her pride?

In the distance, sirens wailed. Closer and closer.

The ambulance burst through the noise as medical staff rushed in, lifting my mother onto a stretcher.

Just before I stepped into the ambulance, I turned back. Looked at him one last time.

“Cassian. You’re going to regret this.”
