My Fiance Has Been Married For Six Years Behind My Back Chapter 04

My Fiance Has Been Married For Six Years Behind My Back Chapter 04

“You pushed Delphine. You almost caused complications with the pregnancy.”

He looked at me, calm, controlled.

“So…in front of everyone, admit that you tried to break up our marriage.”

“Say you were the one who forced your way in.”

For a moment, all I could see was Elowen-thin, fragile, trembling in pain as the disease ate away at her.

The only thing she had ever asked for…was to see me walk down the aisle in a wedding dress.

But that future had already been taken from me.

On the day of the wedding, I wasn’t given a gown.

I was handed a bridesmaid dress. And told to walk behind Delphine.

Below the stage, my mother stood frozen, her face pale, arguing desperately with the crowd.

“My daughter is innocent! She’s not some homewrecker!”

“They’ve been together for three years! They love each other-how could Cassian be married to someone

else?”

But the next second-I stepped onto the stage.

Standing beside Delphine in her couture gown.

Facing a sea of cameras.

Flashes exploded like gunfire.

I lifted the microphone.

And spoke.

“I’m Nerissa Hale.”

My voice was steady. Empty.

“I’m the one who inserted myself into someone else’s marriage.”

“During the third year of Mr. Cassian Virell and Ms. Delphine Crowe’s relationship…

“I tried to take what wasn’t mine.”

“I even attempted to share their wedding.”

“I’m disgusting.”

Each word landed harder than the last.

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

“What is she saying?”

“How did she turn out like this?”

“Her father’s gone and now she’s thrown away every last bit of dignity?”

“We even defended her-turns out she really is that kind of woman.”

Their eyes turned on me. Cold. Judgmental.

They looked at my mother the same way.

Delphine’s voice cut through it all, sharp and slow.

“Kneel.”

“And slap yourself.”

She smiled faintly.

“Or your sister-”

That was enough.

I dropped to my knees, the sound ringing across the stage as I lifted my hand and slapped myself again and

again. “I’m a homewrecker,” I said, my voice raw. “I’m shameless.”

Cassian’s brows drew tight.

His hand twitched, like he was about to stop me-

But he didn’t.

After a moment, his voice came, low and restrained.

“That’s enough.”

“I’ll take care of your sister.”

A figure rushed onto the stage.

My mother.

Her face was twisted with rage and disbelief, and before I could react, her hand came down hard across my

face.

“How could you do this?” she screamed. “What kind of daughter did I raise?”

“Nerissa! Why would you do something like this?!”

Then suddenly-she clutched her chest. Her eyes rolled back. And she collapsed.

Everything stopped.

“Mom-!”

I lunged forward, catching her before she hit the ground.

“Mom, wake up… please-don’t do this…”

My voice broke apart in my throat.

And my phone rang. Sharp. Urgent. Relentless.

I fumbled to answer.

The doctor’s voice came through, cold and final.

“Ms. Hale… your sister’s condition deteriorated rapidly. I’m sorry.”

“There was nothing more we could do.”

“She’s been pronounced dead.”

The phone slipped from my hand. It hit the ground. The screen shattered into a web of cracks.

And something inside me shattered with it.

No tears came.

They froze in my eyes, sharp as blades.

Cassian’s voice cut in, suddenly harsh.

“Call an ambulance! Now!”

He pulled me up, his grip tight.

“That’s enough. This has gone far enough-”

I stood there, numb, like my body no longer belonged to me.

He grabbed me again, urgent now.

“Delphine’s had her say. The wedding continues. I’ll make sure the media stays under control.”

“Nerissa… we can still be together.”

I looked at him. Really looked at him.

“Cassian… Elowen is dead.”

He froze. The words didn’t seem to register at first.

Before he could react, I turned and climbed onto the window ledge.

Behind me, his voice tore through the air-raw, panicked, breaking apart.
